Oh guys I found out why Theis didn’t play today

Apparently the refs went to Theis’ house this morning and called 6 fouls on him in a row. He fouled out and couldn’t play Game 2. The War on Theis is becoming ridiculous…

Haha.

That said, I went to Game 1.  My wife will watch the Celtics with me, but she’s certainly not a big basketball fan and misses more of the game than she sees.  But at the beginning of the second quarter, she turned to me and said “That Theis guy is awful.”  He got yanked a minute later and we haven’t seen him since.

He really flounders against the Bucks, it seems

Back from the game. The C's played great tonight. Their D was outstanding.  Ime's switch to have Horford and Grant Williams guard Giannis man to man paid off, though I don't expect it to work for the entire series. Grant Williams was HUGE at both ends of the floor.

Offensively they were on fire the first half. At one point I think they were 11 of 15 from 3 pt range. And Milwaukee's defense was pretty good once again. The difference was this time the 3's were going in.

The 2nd half didn't have a lot of flow. Part of it was the refs who were terrible. Then Jaylen went cold in the 3rd quarter, but they turned it on again in the 4Q. The thing is when you build a 20 pt lead, even if Giannis goes off, all you need to do is trade hoops, which is kind of what they did.

Lots of venom in the crowd directed at Grayson Allen, lol.

The C's took care of business and looked like their old post Jan selves. Milwaukee got their split in Boston, so they're happy.

Next task is get 1 in Milwaukee. This series feels like it's going 7. Having home court I think is going to matter.

Was at the game. One of the best nights of my life.

No way were we losing.

Jaylen was a freak out there. Understanding just how good he is.

Bucks shot 16% on highly contested 3-pointers. If we can keep that up I like our chances...

3's are high variance, but we've always had good stats defending 3's, even during the Bad Stevens years.

We defended the 3 much better tonight. Too many open looks in game one.

It’s because Game 1, we were defending Giannis like KD with those doubles. Giannis isn’t as good of a scorer as KD and C’s we’re showing GA way too much respect. Sure Giannis is a better passer and stronger finisher but KD will shred you if you don’t make him uncomfortable early.

JB’s superhuman ability to get hot in the 1st qtr was much needed. Tatum’s a slow starter but strong finisher. JB is a strong starter but slow finisher. I’m glad we have both these guys!

Jaylen breaking Allen's and Giannis's ankles would be the opening highlights on SportsCenter if his name was Doncic, Lebron, Steph, Giannis, Kobe or Jordan.

Those two moves were that great.

MIL's team eFG% for the series so far is 48% vs 55% for the season. GA's eFG% is 39% vs 58% for the season and JH's eFG% is 43% vs 57%. MIL has scored 93.5 PPG in the series compared to 115.5 for the season.

BOS's eFG% is 54% for the series and the season and the Cs are averaging 99.0 PPG vs 111.8 for the season.  If our shooting wasn't so up and down (eFG% of 48% in G1 vs 60% in G2). we'd have two wins.

But the bigger story so far is that MIL is consistently having a lot of trouble with the BOS defense, which bodes well I think for the rest of the series.

the biggest difference between tonight and sunday was the shift in defending giannis. Celtics doubled him constantly in game 1 and he torched us passing to the open man.

This game we basically just singled Giannis up with Grant/horford. He's not a very skilled offensive player IMO. his whole game is predicated on the refs letting him throw his elbows around and take charges. So, if you put someone like grant or horford on him who wont back down when he throws that elbow and gets agressive he is pretty much neutralized.

It was a good win.  I did not get to see the whole game but I know what people are saying.  It never felt like we had it in hand.  We would be up say 15, MIL would get an easy bucket, and I would find myself thinking the game was slipping away.  Then we would get a couple of buckets and be back up 18 and I still didn't feel we had the game in hand.

MIL played really good defense in the parts that I saw.  They were forcing us to do the pick and roles way too far out.  But our ball movement was enough, we were getting some open shots, and in the end, it was never really close (even if it felt close).

Historically, it has seemed to me that the second game is more representative of the rest of a series than the first game.  I have no stats to prove this, just my impression from years of watching.  A game 1 can be an outlier but things have settled in by game 2.  We shall see.  We are going to need Smart and Brown so I hope they heal up in this extended layoff.

Our lack of depth has been really exposed.  White in for Smart is a big drop off.  Pritchard gets hot what, once every 4 games.  Theis is not even playing.  Grant was great last game but he is not going to do that every game, teams adjust.  I didn't understand not playing Theis.  Horford and RWill both had 5 fouls.  If Theis is on the floor, he would be getting a couple of these fouls.  Theis has not looked good, but I think we need to put him out there some to protect Horford and RWill.

I'm surprised he isn't ejected during warm-ups

He'll get ejected right before the flight to Milwaukee

Milwaukee never had a chance. We figured out how to guard Giannis early and the game was pretty much over after that.

The only thing giving life to the bucks was Adam Silver's referees. They were abysmal. they showed replays of every foul on the big screen in the arena and a ton of them were horrible calls.

The bucks had no answers for us, and their offense devolved into Giannis barreling wildly into the lane and getting bailed out. With fair officiating we win by 40.

Yeah it’s not like they mounted a furious comeback. We thrashed them early and then played a mostly even game in the second half. It never got to single digits IIRC.

I think we feel nervous with big leads because we’ve so often been burned early in this season and last season. The team went away from what was working offensively for stretches of the second half last night but it was never out of hand.
