Would Ainge really do something like this?  I pray no one trades for Simmons unless it's a westbrook for Simmons kind of deal.  If anyone would give the Nets assets for Simmons it would shock me for next year.  If he comes back and plays well, is a good teammate then I can see him rebuilding his image but the last 1.5 years will still be on the back of their minds.

If the Nets got Goebert for Simmons to me it would make them downright scary.

I can't imagine Ainge would be that stupid, and i'd assume the trade value for Gobert would be much higher than a player like Simmons.
That said Gobert would be a monster on that Brooklyn team, he's just what they need.

If I'm Utah I try to give them Conley instead of Gobert. Maybe throw in a pick. Then Brooklyn either rides Conley or sends him at the deadline plus picks for an upgrade.

But Utah might be desperate enough to gamble on Simmons. If Simmons rebounds into a star it would be a cherry on top of Ainges career

The reason Utah would trade Gobert is due to chemistry reasons.  To fix those, you bring in Simmons?  Explain that one to me.

As an aside, does Kenneth Teape really qualify as an NBA analyst?  I guess it's technically true, to the extent that every member of this forum is an NBA analyst, but the guy doesn't have any special insight other than being a NY sports fan.

Yea but if the goal is to retain Mitchell (somehow) does anyone really think replacing Gobert for Simmons will do the trick?

If the trade is under the assumption Mitchell is gone no matter what, does anyone really think that Simmons has the spine to be a #1 on a team?

I have no idea if Simmons will play or be effective again, but I'd absolutely prefer what Simmons can do as opposed to what Gobert can do.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I'd imagine the goal is to try and salvage the Mitchell relationship by trading away Gobert. Not sure if Simmons is really the right personality to bring in, but I agree with Moranis in terms of what Simmons brings when healthy. Simmons finished second to Gobert in DPOY voting last season and of course he brings a more dynamic offensive game (although, like Gobert, he also can't shoot). It'd be interesting, but BKN would need to include those two picks they got from PHI, as well as a rotation player.

In theory it's not a bad idea if Utah loses this series and wants a shakeup to try and build with Mitchell.

Utah also has a great fanbase but it's not a massive market like NY/PHI/LA so it could help Ben's mental state.

But at the same time, Ben Simmons to me is approaching Kyrie Irving/Antonio Brown territory in sports, maybe not to the same extent but seriously, can you even trust Simmons to put in the work or to actually be available? That's super duper risky. Ben is also still owed 100M+ over the next 3 years which isn't chump change. I'm aware what Gobert makes but at least Gobert plays and is still a great player. I think Utah could find something better or they are better off being patient than going for Simmons.

I find it confusing how many people watch Utah and come to the conclusion that Gobert is the problem.  Their star guard doesn't defend and gets periodic cases of bad tunnel vision, their #2 scorer doesn't pass or defend, their 6MOTY bench gunner doesn't pass or defend, their PG is 34 and has lost a step in addition to being horrendous in these playoffs.  Despite all that Gobert is the part that needs to be traded?

People fixate on the idea that Gobert doesn't defend the perimeter well.  He's a drop big who is the best paint defender of this decade.  Defending the perimeter is not his job.  The much larger issue for Utah is the fact that the team's actual perimeter defenders also can't defend the perimeter.  Rather than playing shooters tight and funneling drivers into Gobert in the middle like they're supposed to, they just... don't take anything from the opposing offense at all.

I don't know.  Maybe I'm the one who is wrong about all of this.  I just feel like trading Gobert - especially for a guy who doesn't want to play - does not address Utah's biggest problems and will most likely make them worse instead.

I’m not sure why anyone would want to trade for Simmons right now

Simmons has reached the point in which they need to take on negative assets to dump that contract....no chance in hell they get a player like Gobert in return.

They only talk so positively about his future b/c they are locked into that long term deal. If he were a FA this summer, they would not be looking to sign him at any price.

Yeah nobody would trade for him until he actually plays a few games at this point. Would we still trade jaylen brown for him? Many liked this idea over the years. Curious if still fans of it.

You underestimate this blog. There are still people here who'd take back Kyrie Irving and others alike in trades
