I am happy to see this being considered and it goes through (or at least something happens). The fact the lakers almost lost 50 games and were in the playoff race till the final week was not a good look.

I don’t see any need to tweak it. The best teams advanced in the play-in and the playoff’s have been better because of it.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Yeah and as some others have mentioned before, sometimes even the better team can get screwed if say someone is out for that game due to COVID or injury (ex. Clippers). I do love the play-in tournament but I like this proposal too.

I think it's good to have a "games back" qualifier. I also would prefer the play in only for the 8th seed. Not the 7th. Or perhaps have a "games ahead" qualifier for the 7th seed that allows them to avoid the play in.

I say skip the Play-In altogether, unless two teams are tied for the 8th spot.  Then, play a tiebreaker like baseball does (or used to).
