That is so deserved and other than winning a title, the pinnacle of a guy like Smart’s career. To me it’s so much more impressive to see a guard D it up with grit and passion, like Patrick Beverly does too. As opposed to a Rudy Gobert who does it with length. Does anyone for a second think Gobert has even 1/2 of Smart’s heart?

You know, through it all a handful of us here have always been on Smart’s side. Always sticking up for him in the 25 annual “trade Smart” threads.

And this is why. Since his rookie year, I’ve said that Smart will win a DPOY award at some point in his career. I have the receipts. He’s been the heart and soul of this team since day one.

Now - let’s do like KG’s DPOY award year and bring home a title alongside it!!

Quite the bounce back year for Marcus. He has always said he was comfortable as a Sixth Man guard but we all know he clamoured for that starting PG spot. He got it, was smart Smart all year, he returned to best defensive guy in the league form and rightfully won the title.

So very happy for him. I had kinda given up hope on him late last year. Glad the Celtics management never did.

I for one, couldn't be happier for Marcus. I remember when he called himself a "Junkyard dog" when asked to describe himself, truer words have never been spoken.

The dude is the heart of this Celtic team, and you don't trade the heart of any team away.

This is amazing!!! Congrats Marcus, so well-deserved and I’m sure Boston’s #1 defense helped his case. Part of me wonders just how much PBS had to do with it. How much politicking does it take to win an award? Idk
