Something to ponder before our first round matchup.

At first glance,(most) people would find this discussion moot. The general populous see Durant & Irving as the superior duo, but the more you contemplate the topic, the more it may sway in Tatum & Brown’s favour.

The Jays are easily better defenders.

Durant is pretty clearly the best player and Tatum is pretty clearly the second best player.  I think Irving and Brown are on roughly the same tier, thus I voted for Brooklyn.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

The Jays are easily better defenders.

Yeah, no question.

I also just hate Kyrie's game. I guess it is conducive to highlight plays and slow-motion replays, but it just seems way too 'all about Kyrie' when he is playing. I remember when we got Kemba that first year, just the night and day difference. I get it, Kemba's health deteriorated quickly, but he just played with so much more purpose, and wanted his teammates to play well. Kyrie's iso game just takes so long to develop. It is pretty when it's going well, but I would get totally bored with him as a teammate.

KD - yeah, sure, he's awesome. But I would rate him and Tatum pretty evenly these days. If Smart can make life difficult for Kyrie and Brown is able to play like we've come to expect, then the series should be winnable.

Fwiw, I said Tatum/Brown because I just really dislike Kyrie.

probably Durant/Kyrie based on however much one thinks Durant is superior to Tatum.  Kyrie and Jaylen are probably a wash at this point --> Kyrie is superior on offense (mostly scoring) but Jaylen is far superior on defense.

I voted for Tatum and Brown. KD > Tatum > Brown > Irving is my ranking, and given Irving is so exploitable on defence whereas the Jays are both plus defenders, it edged me to them.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

The Nets have a better duo when they are on the court.   But it is a lot closer then it use to be.

Celtics still have the better depth and much better fit.

I went with Durant and Kyrie. I was impressed by how close I thought it was. Tatum and Jaylen have really closed that gap and establishing themselves among the best of the best.

Still, that Durant fellow is insane. Edge BKN.

Do they though? Right now it's looking like one is too old and the other checked out agaisnt our 2.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

I'm not sure Durant is really better than Tatum at this point.  Now that Tatum is playmaking for others and staying locked in on defense.  I'm going to lean towards the guy with the bigger stronger body and younger legs who always seems to be healthy.  The guy who has been able to meet the playoff level of physicality because Durant certainly hasn't.

In a bubble Irving is a top player but it's a team game and Irving isn't even close to Brown when all aspects of competing for a team are considered.

Plus the Nets guys don't think they need a coach.  I'd start a team with the Celtics guys any day over the Nets duo.  I'd also head into any current series with the Celtics guys over the Nets guys.  Easy decision for me.

If we are talking both ends, I think the only duo in the NBA (if healthy) better than JB/JT would be Kawhi and PG13. Real close, though.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Tatum has been the best player in the series, and it hasn't been close. He dictated what happened tonight, he was the one who dominated the 4th quarter, when Durant didn't even take a shot.
