I live in Texas and have never been to Boston.  I have been a Celtic fan since 1974.   Finally, I am going to my first Celtic home game on Sunday.  Beyond excited.  Ready to be loud and proud.  Can anyone provide some good going to the game pointers and eating recommendations.  Thanks!!!

I'm jealous! I still kick myself for not going to a ECF game in Det back in 2008. Hope a C's win is part of the experience for you.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

Congrats and TP!
I haven't lived in Boston for years so my suggestions are going to be a bit dated perhaps, but allow me to suggest to things at the opposite ends of the spectrum:

1) Sullivan's Tap is a great dive bar near TD Garden

2) There are a couple of fancy restaurants at the top of big buildings in Boston, which are great ways to see the city from a different POV. One is in the Prudential Center building (top of the hub, I think its called). There's another closer to TD Garden but I can't remember the name.

3) For a non food or drink related outing, consider doing a duck boat. These are another great way to see the city.

Have fun!!
Celtics fan for life.

Give yourself a bit of extra time getting to the game, even if you're taking public transportation. Tons of construction in the area.

No need to go crazy, an extra 15 minutes or so.

I have gone to many Celtic playoff games.

It's nothing special unless you're a big fan of electric energy, ear deafening sound, heart wrenching emotion, spine tingling entertainment, being a part of the massive love and devotion of a rabid fan base to the greatest team the most excellent sport of basketball has ever seen and lastly, possibly having the opportunity of watching something historic and something you'll never forget.

I've only made it to one playoff game there.  Game 5 of the 2008 ECF.  Really a great atmosphere.

Somebody mentioned allowing time to get there, even if taking public transportation.  My recommendation is to take public transportation, but not just for the convenience.  I took the T (Green Line) from my hotel to North Station.  The train was packed with Celtics fans, decked out in green and white, and psyched for the game.  It was like joining the party early.

If you are planning on getting lunch before the game there are some sports bars on canal street, right near the TD Garden. Hurricanes is decent. I used to go the 4’s all the time, but they’ve closed permanently :-\. Also, the North End is walking distance if you like Italian food. I haven’t been to a game in over a year, but I believe they let you in about 30 mins before tip off. Hope you have a great time!

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Yeah. I got to check that one off a few weeks ago with my first game in Boston against the Wolves.

Let's hope you are a good luck charm!

I believe they have opened up a dispensary at North Station too so if you are into that sort of thing, you might end up overpaying for munchies halfway through the 2nd quarter :)

Jealous! It’ll be a hell of an experience.

I’ve only been to Boston once myself, and I went to Game 4 of the ECF against Miami in 2012. One of the coolest experiences ever, and it’s one reason I wished I lived closer to Boston.

Top of the Hub recently closed.  I'm hoping they convert the space in to a traditional observation deck.

Someone already recommended it but if you like dive bars, definitely check out Sullivan's Tap.

Halftime Pizza is a casual spot to grab a slice of pizza and a beer.

Tavern in the Square has good food but it gets very busy, even 1-2 hours before tipoff.

Banners is big new sports bar/restaurant that is connected to the Garden.  It's a little on the pricey side, but it has one of the biggest TV screens you'll ever see.

In terms of food in the immediate vicinity, there are quite a few.  Guy Fieri has a Mexican restaurant right there.  The Harp is nearby, which was always decent, although I haven't been in years.  Tavern on the Square is solid.  There's a sports bar -- Banners, maybe? -- that I didn't care for (terrible hamburger, in my opinion) but my wife liked it.

What do you like for food?  There are all kinds of good restaurants in Boston.  My favorite is Grill 23, an amazing steakhouse, but like all Boston steakhouses, it's pricey (and isn't all that close to North Station, although everything is pretty quick to get to by T.)

What else to know...  the line to get in will be long, but it moves quickly.  Same thing with the line for restrooms!  The line will seem staggering, but there are a ton of urinals.  Lines for food can be brutal; I recommend buying any concessions before the game starts, because otherwise you'll miss a lot of action just waiting.

Where are you sitting?

Hub Hall now exists at North Station and it has dozens of places to order food if you’re looking for convenience and not looking for a sit down dinner.
