As much as this sucks, and it really sucks, it also makes it clear to me that we have a legit big 3 with Tatum, Brown and Timelord.

Well the downgrade from Rob to (presumably) Grant defensively is a major one.  Grant is a solid, switchable defender but there just aren't many players in the league who can replicate what Rob was doing for us.

Offensively losing his rim presence and offensive rebounding hurts, but we're better equipped to absorb the loss at that end.

Also, the downgrade from Grant to ?? on the bench should be considered as well.  At least we brought in Theis.  That turned out to be prescient.  A playoff bench rotation of Pritchard/White/Theis is workable, but very thin - we absolutely cannot afford any other injuries.  Wouldn't object if Nesmith remembered how to hit jumpshots in the last few weeks, but it's probably time to punt to next season on that particular project.

Embiid played THROUGH this averaging 30 ppg. Guy was already looking hobbled as Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. since the Denver game. Let him rest the rest of the way and he should be fine for Round 2. Could have been MUCH worse. I thought ACL

Wow this stinks! This team has the best starting 5 in the league right now. I don’t care so much about W-L in the remaining games anymore. Just get to the playoffs healthy, even if it means playing a few weeks of less-than-inspiring rotations.

Bad news but it def could have been worse.  If we can somehow get through the first round and at least get timelord back off the bench as 15 good min a game for 2nd round moving forward maybe he can hobble though until we get knocked out.

For this type of tear, can you make it a lot worse if you try to rush back too soon?

Start of the 2nd round should be about 5 weeks (mid-2nd round would be 6 weeks).   I hope that is a reasonable target for full recovery.   Getting past their Round 1 opponent obviously is more of a challenge without Rob.

We'll get a good feel for how the team does without him over the next week which will either ease the worries or heighten them.

This makes me feel somewhat hopeful...

PHILADELPHIA -- The last time we saw Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center Joel Embiid on a basketball court, he was playing through a right meniscus tear that he suffered in the first round of the playoffs against the Washington Wizards. Embiid missed a game as a result of the injury, but returned for Philadelphia's second-round matchup against the Atlanta Hawks, playing in all seven games of the series.

The knee didn't seem to bother Embiid too much against Atlanta as he averaged 30.4 points and 12.7 rebounds in 37.4 minutes per performance over the series. However, there was some speculation about whether or not Embiid would need to undergo surgery after the season. Such a surgery never occurred as Embiid instead opted for a natural healing process. We didn't hear much from Embiid over the offseason, but at Philadelphia's Media Day on Monday, the big man provided a promising update on his knee.

"It's been fine," Embiid said of his knee. "I've just been working out all summer. It's been fine, no problems. I'm getting back to where I was and I feel pretty good."

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I ll ask the wife today I was wondering too.  My guess is yes , probably depending on how bad or tear it was in the first place,  age , structure of individual,  amount of stress or load .

When one thing is messed up or not 100 % , then the load is shifted to other parts , muscles , tendons etc…..  so I think it is easier to get another injury , maybe a worse one.

Huge blow to the team. Forget the number 1 seed. Start resting players and avoid the juggernauts of the east as much as possible.

Whether he comes back or not will impact the team..if he's back mid playoffs he'll prob be on minute restriction and getting the rust off his knee. If not, we're stuck with a lower quality big or be a mismatch for the C's.

Didn't Russell Westbrook also played with a torn meniscus and was putting up solid numbers at one point in his career too

Memphis is 17-2 without Ja Morant, without the presence of a single other all star caliber player on their roster.

No reason we can't overcome being without Timelord for 6 weeks, if that's all it is. Hopefully it won't turn out worse than that.

We don't know yet.  A torn meniscus has a wide range of recovery times depending on severity, and we don't have that info.

We could get him back in the second round, or we could get him back next season.  Just don't know yet.

Depends what kind of meniscus tear it is…if it’s an outer meniscus tear on the exterior (lateral) part of the knee, it can provdbly heal on its own, like with Embiids. Because there’s plenty of blood flow to that part of the knee. It Really comes down to pain management/endurance and stability for the player. If it’s to the inner (medial) meniscus then it will probebly require surgery because there’s no blood flow to the cartilage in that part of the knee.

If he was complaining about pain to the exterior (lateral) side of the knee then that would suggest a lateral meniscus tear, which has a better prognosis.
