I know some took it as evidence he really had issues that prevented him from being around the town, but it was always reported he was trying to get money back. Will be interesting to see how it goes I would be a bit surprised if he won to be honest. Players association isn’t exactly a weak union and they allowed Philly to do this.

He'll probably claim hostile work environment due to the Philly fans.   ;D

From early reporting doesn’t seem like he has much chance of winning. Rich Paul has increasingly looked in over his head in this situation.

I look forward to seeing him get laughed out of court

If anything the Sixers should sue HIM for breach of contract or something when his mental issues became magically cured as soon as he got traded.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

It would be a terrible precedent for the league if he wins, so let's all hope he loses.

Trade demands are real, I get that. But teams typically don't have to deal with that until the last year or two of the contract. If a guy can demand a trade in the 1st year of a five year deal with no financial repercussions, the CBA is useless. The Sixers acted within their defined CBA rights, they did nothing wrong from a franchise perspective. He's going to get booed viciously by the fans and he's going to try to use that in his case, but the team has no control over public reaction.

This boils down to does Simmons have an actual mental illness or disability or was he just unhappy?  If it is the former he should win, if it is the latter, he should not.  I've always thought it was the latter, but that is just my opinion based on what has been publicly reported.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Even if he is proven to have a mental illness, I still think he loses. It's been reported that he and Klutch refused to disclose to the Sixers if there was an official diagnosis or the type of treatment plan that was in place. It seems like Sixers management was careful to follow CBA rules while Ben and Klutch tried to strong arm them.

Probably to protect his privacy rights and things like that. I can see both sides I think. But yah, their refusal to disclose diagnosis treatment plans will be the downfall of this settlement.

They obviously would not publicly disclose it. That would be extremely illegal. Even a leak of some sort would result in a massive lawsuit against them. Literally any job in the country if you want disability you have to disclose why you are unable to work to hr. It was reported throughout this that rich Paul did not understand how the cba worked in regards to this.

So Simmons at least claimed to have been receiving treatment for mental health issues through the NBPA, and this was not disputed by the Sixers.  They apparently had some doubts though as they didn't receive any information.  I am guessing this is more about Klutch Sports getting paid than Simmons getting paid.  I assume Klutch doesn't get paid if Simmons doesn't.

The outcome of this may be more clarity in NBA (and perhaps other sports) contracts regarding when do mental health issues classify as injuries, meaning the player is still eligible to get paid.  What sort of treatment and/or disclosure must the player do in order to get paid.  This will be difficult to legally codify but something would better than nothing.  There should be some mechanism for this when there are legitimate mental health issues.

Simmons had been receiving treatment through the NBPA for a mental health issue. The Sixers never disputed the claims, but were concerned that they were not made aware of a specific diagnosis or any form of treatment that would allow Simmons to return to action.
