Grant is going to be a warm commodity. Very curious what the Cs are going to have to pay him.
MLE money would sound right if he continues this type play next year. Maybe more if he has another year shooting 44% from three. 4 years $40 million seems reasonable

Oh I think someone would pay him well over the MLE. He's basically the poster child for the modern NBA role player.
if a team has more than MLE $ available and the FA market is thin, I could see him getting paid better than MLE but it would have to be a team that either feels the need to make a (small) splash in free agency or feels he's the last piece they need to get to the next level.
And Boston can always match.

i suspect the Cs will get an extension done with Williams, ala his brother and Smart. If they're willing to give up large assets to acquire White as signed guy to play with the Jays, Marcus and Robert during their primes -- I have no idea why they wouldn't do the same with Williams.

That said, it's difficult to see how Grant's market rate is going to be significantly lower than White's or Smart's if his play continues. He's a WAY better shooter on a team where the players signed long term are not exactly the Dale Ellis' of the world.

Did you see what Al did yesterday? Grant isn’t capable of that.

They shouldn't let him get even a whiff of free agency. I'd also end speculation of adding a 3rd 'star' to the Jays. They pretty much have their team now - though they have to figure out what to do with Horford.

But Grant is a huge reason why this team is having the success it's having and he'll be overpaid in free agency - so I don't think Brad will even tinker with that - unless it's Williams himself who wants out.

Can't believe I'm saying that.  A year ago I thought he wasn't long for the NBA.

This is part of the reason why even for guys like Nesmith, I hold out some hope. Making the transition into the NBA is not an easy one and can take some time. Yes, not every player will work out, but a handful do. Guys like Grant who work hard and ignore the noise can improve greatly and find a real role on a team. I mean just a year ago I remember the entire fanbase was trashing G-Will and saying they should just cut him ASAP lol.

Even Pritchard who had a solid rookie season, but then struggled a bit early this season got a lot of hate, but he's improved and found a more consistent role and groove on the team.

I also don't think you can undervalue how critical Horford has been on this team. I'm sure the guys look up to him and our frontcourt guys also benefit from his demeanor and advice.

Nice to see a likable, young man with a lot of character achieve at such an effective, versatile level in the NBA.

He is bright, communicative and very much a glue guy for the team off-court as well as on-court. When he first came up, there were lots of stories about his ability to navigate relationships and how affable and we’ll-liked he was with teammates, coaches and staff in general.

He got accepted to Harvard and Yale and chose Tennessee to stay home. Got his Bachelors in 3 years. Jaylens a bright guy. Grant is equally so, if not brighter.

Great to see his hard work on his body and craft pay off.

Batman!!! 20/10

Another great game for a great young man!

Grant just had a postgame interview with Abby. He’s super likable and speaks well. Smart guy.

Tp…He is.

I think he’s more articulate than Jaylen. Both great reps for the Cs and the league.

EHouse just talking about how much time GWill spends on film, studying his opponents, their tendencies and how to attack them offensively and defensively. Smart, hard working kid.

He's always been a bit of a nerd. Becoming quite the ideal role player. Plays well on defence for his physical limitations, especially in favourable match-ups. We've seen him hold his own against Nikola Jokic and Bam Adebayo - not too bad. Seems to be on the right track to developing into a super valuable PJ Tucker type.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

I'll keep saying

Grant's mom works for NASA

Rob Williams is Timelord

We have players who can manipulate space and time on our team

Grant Williams is the Celtic's Brock Holt.  Extremely versatile.  This new look of a leaner, quicker Grant has really paid off.

I am not sure I like him as a starter but he has clearly established himself as a valuable rotation player.  I will say that he has exceeded my expectations.  I did not expect this much out of him this season, that is for sure.

I think it would be a big mistake for him to chase money and go to some other team.  He is a good fit here.  That may not be the case somewhere else.

If Grant gets paid a lot elsewhere and it doesn’t work, he has the fallback option of knowing Stevens will make a trade to bring him back.

TP for the early morning chuckle.

Mike

If he keeps improving, is he the player that takes Horford place in the starting lineup when Horford moves along.  (not this season and maybe not next season)

I don't think so.  a big part of what makes the Timelord/Al combo work on defense is they can both be backline defenders.  GWill doesn't have the height to be the shotblocker that discourages drives to the basket or cleans up the D when someone gets past the perimeter D.

I hope so. Ainge was very stingy on rookie extensions (only Rondo, Brown,, Tatum, and I think Perk got them), but Stevens has shown much more of a willingness. If he asks for the 4/$77 million Smart just got, though, there's no way we agree to it.

I'm just very glad Ainge/Brad didn't listen to the many fans that thought picking up his last option year was a bad move. We would be all but guaranteed to lose him in FA this summer (since we wouldn't be able to offer more than the 1 year/$4.3 million left on the 1st round contract while other teams would have no such limits)
I'm bitter.
