I'm surprised by the rhetorical pearl clutching. In a heated moment, amidst a bunch of pushing and shoving, a man cuffed another man. To me, that's not really a termination worthy offense.
I mean, this happened three days ago:

Nobody is calling for anybody's head there.
White guys are allowed to be angry.
Wow
If you refuse to acknowledge the double standards for what is acceptable for white men compared to black men that's on you, not me.
There is not a shred of doubt in my mind that, generally speaking, there are different responses (thoughts, feelings, actions) to the same behavior if from a white man v. a black man - all other factors equal. Not in all circumstances, but generally. That's an opinion, not a fact I can readily back up.
As for Juwan Howard's actions, I don't think there would be much different response here (on CStrong) if a white man had thrown the punch (or whatever we're calling it).
In terms of what the punishment should be it's hard to assess to what extent race would/could influence that decision. FWIW, I definitely do not think Howard (or anyone) should be fired for what he did -- unless part of an ongoing pattern and/or other issues...
Bobby Knight should have been terminated.
On another note, there are a lot of people who think toughness is shown by acts of physical aggression. An assumption I'll make perhaps unfairly/unwisely, is that his players include some who really need models who DON'T use physical aggression to display toughness or resort to physical aggression when they are frustrated/stressed. I think Howard blew it in an impulsive moment, but I definitely think he can repair it if he wants to and he should get the chance to do so.
