Do folks remember when the NBA ASG was actually, um, competitive?  I remember Bird, Jordan and Isaiah as teammates and they played to win, especially in the 2nd half.  A competitor never stops competing. Ah, good old days....
Google is your friend.  Out of the last 12 ASGs, 7 have finished 5 points or less and only 3 finished more that 10 points.  So while it is true that the players go much less than 100% and defense is optional for most of the game, complaining about a lack of competitiveness is off-base.
I think it was the 2018 game when I tuned in for the last few minutes and the players were very competitive especially Lebron and KD.  As I recall Lebron played some excellent defense on KD to preserve the win.

2020    157-155
2018    148-145
2015    163-158
2013    143-138
2012    152-149
2011    148-143
2010    141-139

Your kind of misusing competitive here by final scores. So I don’t actually think google is your friend here. I used to watch all these games and what would typically happen was the team up 20 would start screwing off even more then the team down till it got close. I can still hear reggie Miller saying ok the east playing a little more serious now to try and get some fake enthusiasm going. And while you are correct they do try the last 2 to 3 minutes and there were a few cool moments, these games were mostly not in any way competitive. I would actually say your response was more off base than what surfer dude said.

I'm sure this will never happen, but I think all of the major North American sports should get rid of all-star games. They're not really competitive, and it's just another opportunity for star players to get hurt and ruin their team's season. I think they should name all-stars and leave it at that.

All-star weekends used to be a real spectacle in the pre-internet days, as they offered a chance to see many players we didn't usually get to see (players from other conferences and markets); and I could be wrong, but it seemed like players used to really want to win all-star games. But now, with the internet and things like NBA League Pass, we have access to way more than we could ever have hoped for, and it's just not a big deal (for me, at least) to see all-star festivities. Total snorefest.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

I appreciate that.  Closeness of scores does not in any way equate to competitiveness. That's a pretty silly take that doesn't pass the eye test.

As I past years, I only watched the Skills Challenge and 3-point shooting contest.

Just watched a top ten plays video from the game. Yawn. Guys jogging up the court on a half-speed “fastbreak”, defenders literally getting out of the way so the player with the ball can throw it down.  I’d rather they just went on vacation.

Would you rather Jokic have taken him out?  It’s a freaking all star game.  It’s sole purpose is to entertain and keep guys healthy.  The outcome means nothing.

While watching the halftime game i was wondering, how many Celtics are on that 75(76*) list of greatest players? Even including guys like Shaq and Gary Payton who were only here for a year. Its gotta be like 15 or more!
everyone got so sensitive after 9-11... thanks alot bin laden

He’s saying (and I agree) that watching NBA players make dunks while defenders literally get out of the way isn’t all that entertaining. So why bother with this “game”?

I didn't watch the 'festivities' but I did see a highlight video of Tatum's plays.  And nothing I saw makes me think I missed anything.

There's one play where he passes to Embiid in the corner, who drives the paint at about quarter-speed and tosses in the laziest dunk while the defense sits around.  What is the point of all of this anymore?  Don't tell me it's a showcase, because there's nothing remotely fun or impressive about this.  They play at less than walkthrough speed.

If this is all we really want to do here, then just kill the thing.  Hand out some trophies to the first half's best players, give the league three days off, and don't even bother with the All Star nonsense.  Because legitimately, the most entertaining part of this whole deal was when Lebron and KD were picking their teams while covertly s***ting on Harden.
