Pritchard doesn't get a lot of love on this site would you all rather have Eric Bledsoe or Tomáš Satoranský as the third guard off the bench. Who else might shake loose?

I haven’t given up on Pritchard, yet. Can’t stand Bledsoe, not familiar with Satoransky.

Bledsoe, but he’s not being bought out, is he?

For your third-fourth guard, the ideal guy is someone who is not good enough to be a full-time starter, but has the ability to completely control a game for stretches and get good looks for other bench players.

Tomas Satoransky has been phenomenal at times in FIBA play, going toe-to-toe with the best of the best. I'm not sure why he can't find a niche in the NBA. Maybe he has behind-the-scenes issues. But I think he could be a great option. His main flaw is his outside shooting, but you can mitigate that somewhat by putting the ball in hands for stretches and allowing Tatum or Brown to work off of him, and pairing him with three other shooters (Grant, Horford, and Smart/White).

As some of you may know, I have been a big fan of Payton.  That said, ever since Satoransky joined the Wizards as a 6'7" point guard at the age of 25, I have been intrigued with his game.  I would love for the Celtics to bring him on board if possible.  With the Jays and Rob playing with him, I think he would be fantastic.  What I remember about him with the Wizards was he was active, a good passer and decent on D.  He shot 3s at a 40% clip with limited minutes over 3 years with the Wiz.  Since then he as not shot the 3 very well.  I'm still not ready to give up on Payton, but I must admit I would be pleased to see the 30 year old Satoransky leading the 2nd team.

Pritchard doesn't get a lot of love on this site would you all rather have Eric Bledsoe or Tomáš Satoranský as the third guard off the bench. Who else might shake loose?

Of the players who stand to benefit the most from the trade-deadline roster consolidation, Payton probably is foremost. When Brad was coaching him - as a rookie, mind you - he was given a regular rotation role to play, and his statistics reflected that, especially his long-range shooting %; mostly this season he's gotten spot minutes and a diminished role.

One of those old truisms in the NBA is that a player needs at least one skill that he really excels at.

You might argue (I would) that the modern rules skew toward guys who are more generalists, since in today's game it's easier to exploit a weak defender or double off a weak shooter (etc., etc.) than it was in bygone years. I would further argue that today's game favors team play, especially ball- and man-movement; and athletic players who can cover a lot of ground. It's just not as easy to "hide" a player on either end.

Payton is far from a one-trick pony, but his size and strength limit his court time. If he had more "point guard" skills he'd have been on the court more, possibly - but it's defense that has kept him on the bench for long stretches.

We'll see how he progresses his defense (and it just doesn't look likely that he'll ever play starter's minutes on a contender); but he's apparently got an outstanding work ethic. The greater part of defense is still effort, desire, and being in the right place.

And a skill that is highly prized in today's game: the range to shoot over the defense. I don't put too much stock in his shooting%s right now; this guy is an exceptional shooter with unusual range.

'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

You couldn't give me Bledsoe! Satoransky, or give Chris Clemons in Maine a call up!

There is something intriguing about Satoransky and with his size he could probably play alongside Pritchard, actually.

Satoransky has been truly unbelievably bad this season. 32 games played, 15MPG, averages 2.8PPG, 2.4APG and 2RPG shooting 29.9% from the field and 16% from 3.

I think he has fallen off the cliff. Pritchard is currently significantly better than that

Not quite sure what you mean that he can’t find a niche.  He was a full-time starter for Chicago and Washington 2 and 3 seasons ago.  Last year he lost his starting job but was still very much in the rotation.  This year he stunk, and shooting 30% from the field and 16% from 3 during 500 minutes of play finally got him benched.

I’m fine with taking a flyer on Sato because he’s got positional versatility, but Pritchard is likely the better option unless Satoransky shakes the yips.

I still like and have faith in Pritchard but if Satoransky is available and willing to sign he would be a great addition. His size would help add depth to multiple positions
