Legend has it that with a title finally secured, Brad Stevens will finally make a first round draft pick.

Gotta say, Al looks fresh as hell.

Contract extension.

I don't think that's happening.  He's signed for one more year.  I think he plays next and rides off with his 285M in career earnings and at least one title.

It's interesting in that I thought that, then someone pointed out that the C's traded the first they received for Jrue.  Every site I look at though, has the C's still picking in the first round.  ???

I think he definitely plays next year. Maybe we?ll be able to Blake Griffin him mid-year for a year or two after he ?retires?. I?d love to continue having Al contributing to the team, even if it?s in a reduced capacity.

We traded a GSW first this year and a 2019 BOS #1 for Holiday.  We still have ours.

We still have our pick (#30), so we technically still do have a 1st. Wish we were able to trade that one to the Blazers instead of the GSW one. But I seriously don?t care at all since making the trade helped us win a Title!

It's been hours since banner 18 so excuse me for letting the enthusiasm run wild, but provided Horford comes back and we win out next season, he'd be one of the only (potentially the only? I haven't checked that) player to go back-to-back championships in the NCAA as well as the NBA.

That's a pretty good footnote for your legacy.

Seeing how Horford was pleading with the players in the last few minutes to close it out makes me think he would be a great player/assistant coach if such an arrangement is possible.

And likely gets him in the hall of fame.  It's the basketball HOF, not NBA so college success matters.

One of the only, but some guy named Bill Russell won consecutive NCAA titles at San Francisco.  I think he won a few NBA titles in a row if memory serves.

Also, Kareem pulled off the feat as well.  My guess is a couple other players from the UCLA dynasty also did this, but I don?t know for sure.

But Bill and Kareem is nice company to be in, at a minimum.

  • On To Banner 19!
Wyc Grousbeck just said this morning on the Greg Hill show that Horford is back next season.

HELL YEAH!

And it might even be for beyond 2025?   :o (maybe he feels he can play 2 more years)

You know I briefly thought about putting an asterisk in there for pre- and post-merger, but yeah, good company.

Anyone in the 'modern' era qualify?

Officially the NBA prohibits it through the CBA. Unofficially Udonis Haslam was on the Heat roster forever.

And likely gets him in the hall of fame.  It's the basketball HOF, not NBA so college success matters.
Agree, though I think his current resume is good enough as is - call it the Chauncey Billups metric.

Brad did an amazing job since 2022 when he took over to totally revamp the team around tatum/brown.

if you look at that roster he took over, it was bad. Ainge did well in getting us smart/brown/tatum/rob etc.....but he in the end became too obsessed with undersized point guards and his "assets" celtics were .500 and then Brad just kept tinkering and tinkering. trade kemba for Al, trade for White, get rid of all the non-defensive players sitting on our roster. and we've been to 2 finals, 3 ECF in a row with 1 ring so far.

Also, Props to Brad/ownership for not just settling after we lost in 7 to Miami last year. most GM's/ownership would be happy with a finals berth/game 7 loss. (embiid hasn't made it past the 2nd round).

but they said "no something just isn't working here" and made hard decisions to trade guys like Rob williams, marcus smart. and bring in Porzingis/Holiday which along with the jay's growth really is what changed and revamped our team.

He might be able to do two more if our big depth survives.  Keeping KP healthy is huge which held his minutes to 26.8 PG.  I'd like to see that even lower, 20-24 range with about the same number of games played.  KP played 57 games and 29.6 minutes per.  They need another big to absorb some minutes, and although I like Kornet, I'm not talking about him.  Tillman is probably the guy on the roster.  He's not going to help from deep, but he's probably your third big that you can extend minutes on to.

If Brad keeps the Celtics up with his GM-ing and they win it again we'll have to give him the nickname 'Red'.
