does anyone worry that we might be derailing some of our chemistry and the roll that we have been on?
I guess if the starting 5 stays in place, theoretically we should be able to continue our good play.

No I'm not really worried that shipping out Dennis the Menace and Freedom the CIA Lapdog is going to hurt chemistry

Am I the only one who likes these trades so far? WE opened the Roster space and got more of what was working. We still need more than 8 playable guys.

I like the trades overall. We probably overpaid on both counts but sometimes you have to to get what you want and I think we're a better team today than we were yesterday, and we have scope to further improve it, and we're under the tax.

I like Derrick White, I think he's an upgrade over Josh who I also liked. He can play both guard spots and is more of a playmaker than Josh and is a solid defender as well. Throwing in the picks was might have been an overpay but with regards to the 2028 swap, I see that as akin to buying an ETF of the S&P500...Brad is saying he's expecting us and planning for us to continue to be competitive into the future and there's going to be no tanking heading into 2028 on his watch. Of course, if things really go south, Brad probably won't be here by 2028 to take his punishment over giving away a lotto pick but I'm not really at wrist slitting stage over it. If anything it sends a clear signal of his commitment to strengthening the franchise over the next half decade.

Really like Theis back too, I think Schroder and the riffraff are a good price to play. Enes has become unplayable in our current defensive scheme and Schroder was going to be lost at the end of the season anyway. So if we look at the balance of the trades where we essentially swapped White and Theis for J.Rich and Schroder, with 5 additional slots to fill in the buyout market, I'm ok with it.

The other thing is that Brad has shown he's not going to let sentiment get in the way of doing what he thinks he needs to do. Not a bad first trade deadline for Trader Brad.

Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

I’m very happy with the Derrick White acquisition. I think Ime knows what he’s capable of and what he could still be. It helps also that he has a history with Smart and the Js. That would help the transition easier for him. I can already see him creating looks for JT and JB. The Smart/White combo would be a menace on the defensive end.

I’m also happy with the Theis reunion. He’s a nice back up rim protector for Rob. It helps also that he has a decent three point stroke. Imagine all the open looks he’ll get when teams collapse on the Js. A double big line up of him and Al could be a nice experiment for Ime. Two decent rim protectors with a three point threat. I’m excited for the rest of the season to play out.

I really like it as well. I've been advocating for White and looking forward to watch him in a Celtics jersey.
Stevens is focussing on defense and teamplayers. And advanced stats. Look at what the Celtics have as a closing line-up.

Rank NBA: EPM (minimum 900 minutes played) / EW

Tatum 17 - 8
White 22 - 23
Williams 25 - 35
Smart 34 - 29
Brown 48 - 44

Rank NBA: RAPTOR (minimum 900 minutes played) / WAR

Tatum 7 - 3
White 19 - 16
Smart 27 - 19
Williams 41 - 45
Brown 48 - 39

That's pretty crazy. Based on these models we now have five top 50 players. Basically this year White has had an All Star impact, hopefully he can bring that to Boston as well!

I bet White  knows the system too having played in San Antonio.

I like them for the short term only.  I feel more comfortable going into the playoffs with this group.  I think they are horrible long term though!

I like them for the mid-term as well.  I think adding Theis and White gives us protection in case we want to trade Smart or if Horford is waived.  Plus it helps build a team culture.

I get adding the #1.  That was the cost of doing business this year.  Cam Reddish returned a #1, Thad Young was traded for a #1.  Adding a #1 to Richardson was worth the upgrade, at least hopefully.

But, the pick swap is sort of an indefensible risk in my mind.  Unexpected things happen, especially six seasons out.  We don't even know that Tatum and/or Brown will still be playing for us.  Can you imagine if Seattle had traded "swap rights" to its 2007 first rounder at the 2001 trade deadline for Doug Christie?

That's obviously a worse case scenario, but it's a possible scenario.  Teams can't put themselves in situations that could cause them to wildly overpay.

So, I like the players.  I like the Theis deal and the cap savings move unconditionally.  But, Brad better build this team into at the very least a perennial playoff team.

If we didn’t have to give up a pick to get White, I’d be ecstatic

Also, I’m really excited about getting Theis back. The guy knows where to be on the floor and despite his inability to shoot, he will help our offense imo.

Yeah, I hope that is one of the picks we trade with Al for an upgrade this season. I get that it's likely not going to turn into a Nets/Tatum situation, but I don't want to have to think about that swap for the next 6+ years.

I don't trust our scouting department or are player development.   Grant improved on his own.    The scouting department has missed on quite a few picks recently.  What good are picks if you can't nail them or develop what you pick?  Maybe Stevens feels the same.

Austin Ainge is not gone, I wish he was, but he is still here.  But there is our scouting department

Austin Ainge - Assistant General Manager
Brandon Bailey - Advance Scout/NBA Personnel Scout
Ashley Battle - Scout
Evan Bradds - Player Enhancement Coach
Remy Cofield - College Scout, General Manager, Maine Red Claws
