I can't help but feel like there was another deal in the works that fell through.

We're now short on wings behind the Jays and have too many open roster spots.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I don't understand this one at all.  I don't give a crap about losing Enes or Bruno, but why are we adding Theis' four-year contract?  I'd have rather just let Schroder play out the year here rather than anchoring ourselves to that.

The Derrick White trade I get, but this one I don't.  Do we have some plan with all of these open roster spots?

I'll take one!

Rockets are waiving Freedom. Maybe we can sign him to fill one of those slots.  ;D

Mike

So Kanter thrice?

Both Smart and White can guard wings.

It's like the team is chasing it's own tail... we keep reacquiring and trading the same guys.  Horford twice, Kanter twice, Theis twice.
This stuff makes me really uncomfortable about Stevens as GM.

Isn't there a rule you can't pick up a player you traded that gets waived or is that if they are bought out?

But neither of them of great shooters. We shrunk the floor around the Jays when we needed to acquire more shooting around them.

Again, feels like an incomplete to me. More so than before.

Making trades like a coach making substitutions.

But not as much of a tongue-twister as Theis thrice would have been.

Yes, we’re free of Freedom.

You may be right. It'd be ideal to get another shooter on this team.

My point is that we have a ton of versatility with this roster now.

So we have 4 perimeter players and 4 bigs. Those 4 perimeter guys are 2 combo guards (White, Smart) and 2 SFs (Jays).

Does this mean we'll be seeing:

(1) More Grant Williams as backup SF?
(2) More two guard configurations while one Jay rests?
(3) Or more Nesmith?

Two very interchangeable guards.

Horford and Kanter made sense, more or less.  Taking Horford to get out from under Kemba, and then signing Kanter as a playable third-string big.  Fine.

This Theis deal is just odd.
