Blazers must really like Keon Johnson.  Only thing I can think of
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Clippers just got a ton better. They are becoming a very clever franchise.

Can someone rename this?   It looks like a Clipper - Celtics trade from the title.

I like this for the Cs.  Bledsoe for Rubio has been mentioned in the press.  This make Schroder more valuable to the Cavs.

I’m sure the Blazers would have no problem dumping Bledsoe to Cleveland for a 2nd.

Bledsoe theoretically could be moved in a separate trade, I think but if that's what the Blazers wanted they probably could have rolled it into this trade.

Sure, but if the Clippers want to make a deal now, there’s no need to hold it up while the Cavs are thinking what they want to do, because that deal can happen on its own.

I actually think this opens up the Clippers as being a potential Schröder landing spot.  They already wanted a PG despite having Bledsoe.  Now he’s gone and they didn’t get one back with him.

Do the clippers have any TPEs? Because the only player I'd have interest in there is Luke Kennard. Don't see that type of swap happening because management seems more interested in cutting payroll that adding talent.

I wonder if this is a sign that Portland is ready to make real moves and blow up the core? Because they didn't really get anything of value back. Bledsoe is sporadic at best, Keon is project, idk what Winslow is anymore, and the future 2nd will be mid to late in the round.

This isn't a move a GM would make if they're trying to win this season or next.

Sure looks like it.

No doubt, but I also think this is a weird trade if they were trying to flip Lillard or McCullom for a big name like Simmons, because you'd want Simmons to play with guys like what they just traded.

This seems like a total-tear-down move to me. Hopefully the Brad is on the phones.

Dumping Normal Powell makes some sense to me given the emergence of Anfernee Simons.

The 3 small guard lineups clearly were not working. The Blazers bad defensive backcourt need defensively adept forwards to help cover for their limitations. That is why the moving on of Covington is confusing.

They trade N.Powell and have a high quality three guard backcourt, replace the forwards around Covington (keep Nance as 4th forward) and get a backup for Nurkic and Portland are a good team again. A 50+ win team. Not a title contender but a good team.

Instead they dumped Covington as well and left themselves without a single starting caliber forward. They have weak bench forwards and no backup center. That is a lot more work to replace those spots. Keeping Covington was an important step.

Sure looks like they are blowing it up instead of retooling because Covington should have been a key element of that retooling program. I'd have him as the 4th most important piece behind the 3 guards.

TP.

So we could trade Dennis into the Rondo TPE and take back a pick of some sort. It may be a far out pick, though.

I guess this is about getting out from under Powell's contract for Portland.  He has this year plus 4 / $73M more after this season.  I never thought he was all that good.  Bledsoe is not guaranteed for next season so he is essentially expiring.  It cost them Covington to get out from Powell.

This may mean that they plan to keep McCollum and Lillard.  I think this gets them under the tax cap this year and Bledsoe would come off next.  I can see this from Portland's perspective.  This is a good season for them to reset the tax clock.

Not sure where Powell plays when Kahwi comes back.  He may come off the bench.

Yep, they can acquire Schroder if they want to, from a CBA perspective.  They actually have all their seconds until 2027, minus whatever they just sent to Portland.  They also have a 2025 from Detroit.

I made you a Luke Kennard idea (that I'd had in my head for awhile, but the Powell trade makes it more rational to me).

Powell can play SG. Assuming they go "small" with Paul at SF, and Kawhi at PF.

That's next season's problem, but I think they can have Powell, George, and Kawhi in the 2-4 spots.  Certainly that lineup will be featured, if it isn't the starting lineup.

I like it for the Clips provided they think Kawhi and PG will be healthy for a playoff run.

I thought I saw a report just today that Kawhi is likely done for the year.

What year?
