Memphis is supposedly looking for a wing upgrade on the bench.  We could use a better PG from the bench.

Memphis gets:
Richardson
Schröder

Celtics get:
Tyus Jones
Kyle Anderson

Why for Memphis:  Anderson has had a really down year, and Richardson would be a sizable upgrade on a surprising contender.  Jones is a good player for them, but doesn’t share the court that much with Morant, who they play as much as they can.  They won’t notice the dropoff to Schröder as much because has a smaller role for them.  Richardson is signed next year, which eats into Memphis’ cap space to a degree, but they look to have $17ish million in space, and there aren’t that many players likely to hit the market who can be had for that salary and are better than Richardson has shown this year, so the loss of cap space might not be a dealbreaker.

Why for Boston:
Jones would be a significant upgrade over Schröder, and they could play him next to Smart, effectively giving him some of the minutes Richardson had been getting also.  Anderson could still be in the rotation.  The Celtics add a little salary in this deal this year, but are still under the Fernando line, so are at no more risk for the tax than they are today.  They lose a little salary from their books next year, which might open up more avenues to make S&T’s that expose them to the apron, but also get a half season look as well as Bird rights to two players who might be on their free agent shopping list.

Essentially Memphis has Anderson and Jones playing about 22 and 18 minutes a night (when neither starts).  They could give those 22 to Richardson and 18 to Schröder, which improves then on net.  They probably could even go 25 to Richardson and 15 to Schröder.

Likewise with Boston, it’s lately been 25 for Richardson and 15 for Schröder.  Because of Smart’s positional versatility, they could play Jones 25 and Anderson 15.

TP for a logical and realistic trade idea -- a rarity around here.

I think it makes more sense and levels the value if you swap in Bane for Anderson. Then I'd do it.

(just kidding -- couldn't help myself)

If this season is the outlier for Anderson, I'd do that trade.  would have to do a better dive into why he's not having a good year when that team is doing very well

I think his most obvious statistical drop-off is in 2-point shooting, particularly from 3-10 feet.  The prior 3 years he shot 50% from there.  This year he’s down to 38%.  As 25% of his shots have come from there, it’s brought him down from being league average as a shooter to below average.  The bulk of his value isn’t in scoring, but the drop in efficiency is causing problems, especially when his best offensive skill (he’s a plus ball handler who can be a point forward when needed) isn’t very useful on a team with Ja Morant.  That skill could be a better fit here, so the change in scenery might help.

This is best trade proposal I have seen on here..very reasonable for both teams..TP
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Funny, this is very similar to the consideration about J-Rich in Dallas when he dropped to only 33% 3-pt shooting.

if there is confidence from the talent evaluators that Anderson will bounce back like Richardson has done, that's a deal worth making

Is Bane good enough to expand the deal into this?  (the Bane not Anderson line)....
or is he too good for Memphis to bite?

Schroder, Richardson, Pritchard, Romeo

for

Bane, Tyus Jones, DeAnthony Melton

We move from Pritchard's shooting to Melton's toughness and D. (he has PG skills as well).

And Pritchard's shooting is replaced and the some by Bane...who becomes a foundational backup..and if Brown is ever gone in a whopper trade Bane helps ease the sting as our starting SG.

Smart, Jones, Melton
Brown, Bane, Melton
Tatum, Nesmith
Horford, G Will
R Will, Horford, Freedom

I don’t see Memphis being willing to trade Bane for someone outside our top 3-4 players.  He’s arguably their second-best player this season.

Try top 2.  They're not going to trade Bane for Horford, Smart or even Timelord.

The original proposed trade seems reasonable on paper, but I see no reason Memphis would do it.
The trade doesn't make them more competitive with the Suns or Warriors.  If anything, the disruption from the trade could cost Memphis the 3rd seed and home court in the 1st round.

Based on their play this season, Richardson doesn't seem like a sizeable upgrade over Anderson.
He's also got an additional year on his contract whereas Anderson's is expiring.  I'd rather have that cap space for the offseason.
