Didn't we just do the TPE thing with the trade for Bol and Dozier?  They came in to the Celtics with the Kemba Walker TPE so didn't count as incoming salary.  Our outgoing salary was JHern at $7.1M.  So even though we took in about $4M of salary and sent out $7.1M, we were able to end up with a new TPE at $7.1M and also extend the date when it expires relative to the date that Kemba's expires.

We could do exactly the same thing with Horford only the numbers are bigger and we would need to use more than 1 TPE to cover the incoming players/contracts.  It both consolidates a couple to TPE into 1 TPE, which is good as you can't combine them directly, and also kind of rolls them over and extends when they expire.  The tricky part with Horford is that the incoming salaries need to match up with our individual TPEs to get the most out of them.

Two other possible centers Stevens could be looking at along with the previously mentioned Myles Turner.

(1) Sabonis. Horford and picks.
(2) Valanciunas. Good individual season in New Orleans but the team is sinking and he might be available at a cheap price.

Did we use any of the $17 million TPE? Didn't they have smaller TPEs they could have used other than the big one? I thought they did.

I like JV, but how do you think that he'd fit with Timelord?

He doesn't. It would be one or the other.

We used the Kemba Walker TPE for Bol and Dozier.  We have the full Fournier TPE ($17.1 million) the Thompson TPE ($9.7 million) and now a Hernagomez TPE ($7 million). We have a little bit left of the Walker TPE, but I don't think it's enough to even grab someone at the rookie minimum.  I suppose if we acquired someone prior to the draft who had like $500k guaranteed for next year we could do that, but for the most part, that TPE is gone.

TP 2021. That's what I thought.

The Raps start Siakam out of position at the 5. I bet they could have a use for Horford. I could see a trade around Horford/Dragic + filler(s). It would basically be yet another salary dump on our part.

Horford is too old to fit their roster development IMO.  Turner made better sense, but with his surgery they will need to explore something else.

They would probably jump on Rob Williams for Siakam, but I would not make that trade. Would you?

Timelord + filler(s) for Siakam? In a heartbeat! I highly doubt the Raps would do it though. Fwiw, I proposed this idea in a Raps forum. All posters were quick to dismiss it.

Toronto probably doesn't want to add Horford's salary, either for this season or next.

The only way Horford can be moved is to take back a long term contract for a team that wants to cut salary.  For instance if the Rockets wanted to cut salary next year they could trade Gordon and Woods for Al, Bol and Dozier.  Woods can start at PF next to Rob and Gordon is our bench glue guy and is a great shooter.  This could be plan C if the C's can't get any big 3rd piece.  Woods is an expiring next year while Gordon has 2 more years so the long term money isn't crazy and both players could be moved to playoff teams if they don't fit here.  Both can space the floor and woods is not a terrible passer out of the post.  I don't think much draft pick compensation would need to go to Houston since they are cutting salary.

How long is Lopez out in Milwaukee.  That seems like a good spot for Horford as he Brook are pretty similar skill sets.  It is just hard to make a trade work without including one of Milwaukee's big 3 as Lopez is the only middle sized contract they have (13 million).

That said Lopez, DiVincenzo, and Hill for Horford does work.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I would think that they would just bring Boogie back if they're desperate for a backup.

I think Houston would want more in return -- cutting salary wouldn't be enough of a reason to give up 2 trade chips.  Wood should have some trade value around the league.  Gordon is overpaid at this point and the length of his contract isn't a selling point but some team out there pushing for the playoffs might offer something better than the ability to waive Al and 2 scrubs
