Also someone wrote we could get John Wall for that.  We could also get him for a 2035 protected second rounder.

The limiting part of that trade is the youth of the Celtics.   When done in the past, the teams receiving the picks were betting on the other team eventually getting old and splitting.  That could limit the return.

Spurs Murray, Raps FVV and Kings Fox are on our timeline. I'd go for it. I don't like the idea of wasting J&J primes. Nesmith will probably be a part of any deal. We have contacts to make the deals.

Donovan Mitchell

Utah's locker room would have to get very toxic in a very public way but I could see Mitchell being motivated to come play with Brown and Tatum and that is probably a championship core if you could fill the roster out correctly.

Not sure if DA advising the team would help or hurt since he'd clearly be viewed as a biased source. Certainly wouldn't be as bad as Rich Paul pulling Anthony Davis to the Lakers.

I think Donovan & Tatum would be like the 4 seed right now, with Brown they would be really nasty.  If we could Trade Smart, Horford and Schroeder plus a bunch of picks for him it would be a coup.

Yeah, I was thinking about them as a pairing a few days ago whenever all those trade Jaylen threads were happening. I like them as a pairing.

I believe they'd work a lot better than Jaylen & Tatum because of Donovan Mitchell's superior penetration in the halfcourt due to his ball-handling, quickness, passing and shot-creation off the dribble. Having someone who could handle that offensive usage and give movement and momentum to the offense. Someone who can create team passing in the way he does for Utah would be so valuable. More valuable than Jaylen's contributions.

Then I thought "no way Utah trades Mitchell for Jaylen. Jaylen is a bad fit for their offense. That team wouldn't be a contender anymore with Jaylen there".

Beal, if Washington continues to struggle and feels they can't re-sign him.

Brandon Ingram if NOP thinks Zion is not going to be back to himself ever and decide to blow it up.

Jamal Murray if Denver doesn't love his long term viability due to his knee.

KAT if Minnesota is stupid.

Lillard if Portland is blowing it up.

I don't know. Lots of very large ifs there.

A huge offering of picks is most valuable to teams that want to rebuild. Not teams that are trying to win now.

For a large portion of the league, what Boston is offering just isn't that valuable. Talent, win-now players, is what they are seeking. Not long term down the road maybe valuable maybe not picks.

This is a trade package for a team that is hard up and desperate.

So 3 picks + swaps + matching (Horford and Richardson get to about $40M).

I don't think too many teams would trade a star player for that.  Maybe Towns?  I would do Towns.  You could probably get John Wall.

I don't think this gets us Lillard.

You could get John Wall for a second if you’re willing to take on his salary for expirings.

I agree, I was trying to be cute.  For the record, I do not expect nor would I want, the Celtics to trade for Wall in any way, shape, or form.

So….

BOS trades: Horford, Herangomez, Langford, three #1s, two swaps

POR trades:  Lillard, Nance

Who wins that trade?

Trading your next five drafts away for anything less than a piece that guarantees your team will be awesome is the kind of move that gets the entire management of a franchise fired and results in the team being in purgatory for a decade.

I love Sabonis, he would elevate us to a contender level, depending on the cost.

True.  Of course, wasting the prime of two stars is also purgatory.

Does it?

Lakers did it and won a title. Milwaukee did it and won a title. Brooklyn did it once and became a stacked team in 6 years. They did it again and became favorites to win it all. Presti did it in OKC and still has a job. Same for Langdon in NOP and Stone in Houston.

Where are the examples you site?

who is 34 years old? you give up 5 years worth of draft picks for a guy whose ability to be a star will not come even close to that?

i think the celtics can, and should, do better for that sort of value.

Things to think about with pick swaps. First, if the trade works out for you it's unlikely to become superbad in such a short time frame (+/- 4 years). Second if you do, you still get the pick of the other team who has just started a rebuild, which is probably still a decent pick.
