Before I start, this concept is based on the notion that; the Cavs need wing scoring and want to contend now, that the Nuggets believe they don’t have enough cover for their star injuries, and the Heat considerably struggle in the playoffs.

—————————

Step 1.*

Celtics: Evan Mobley, Ricky Rubio (expiring)

Cavs: Jaylen Brown, multiple Celtics first round picks (heavily protected)

Step 2.*

Celtics: Jeff Green

Nuggets: Dennis Schroder

Step 3.

Celtics: Kyle Lowry, Duncan Robinson

Heat: Al Horford, Marcus Smart

Step 4.

Use 10+ million (non tax paying) mid-level exception on best available free agent:

Joe Ingles, TJ Warren, Tomas Satoransky, Serge Ibaka, Montrezl Harrell, Kyle Anderson, Pat Connaughton, Bruce Brown Jr.

Step 5.

Sign Aron Baynes to a vet minimum.

* Step 1 & 2 need to be completed before 2022 trade deadline.

—————————

Boston Celtics

Robert Williams III
Evan Mobley
Jayson Tatum
Duncan Robinson
Kyle Lowry

Josh Richardson, Payton Prichard, (MLE FA), Grant Williams, Aron Baynes, Jeff Green, Juancho Hernangomez, Romeo Langford, Aaron Nesmith

Why would Miami do that?

Like I alluded in the ‘preface’, this would be based on them having issues in the playoffs.

Adebayo
Horford
Butler
Herro
Smart

This team is extremely balanced.

Sounds good — except that the two main trades aren’t achievable.

When was the last time a potential ROY got traded half way through the season? I bet it has never happened. Mobley is a pipe dream. You may as well claim we should trade for Luka or Jokic. It seems equally unlikely to happen.

I got 2 steps instead of 5:

1. Trade Timelord + Juancho for Wood. The "Base Year Compensation" rule would come into effect. It would have to be a 3-way with OKC absorbing Juancho's salary.
2. Trade JRich for Joe Ingles

PG: Smart - Schroder
SG: Brown
SF: Ingles
PF: Tatum
C: Wood - Horford

(I'd rather have Simmons over Wood, but I doubt the Sixers want to deal with us)

P.S. I believe Baynes is out for the whole season.

Not really, in my opinion.  The defense is better, but the offense is much worse.

If that trade was feasible, the Celts should just skip the other steps and go all in on that one.

Timelord
Tatum
Robinson
Brown
Lowry

The Cavs and Heat would hang up on us! I like getting Jeff Green back, though.

Balanced at what?  They can’t shoot.  Adebayo is just a better version of Horford at this point in their careers.  Their offensive skillsets are largely redundant.  I’m not even sure how well their defense holds up, because Horford appears to be quickly losing his ability to guard on the perimeter.

This trade is just taking our roster construction issues and moving them to Miami, while pretending that they are receiving real value.  Riley isn’t an idiot.  That’s a horrendous deal for them.

I stopped reading at Cavs trading Evan Mobley. Mobley might be more valuable than Brown and he’s a rookie.

Boston assigns Aaron Nesmith, Bruno Fernando to Maine Celtics. Couple that with Jabari Parker gone.

Something may be about to go down.

Cavs wouldn't trade Mobley for Tatum, yet we can get him for Brown. Nope.

What’s going down is that Maine had a game tonight and they wanted to give those guys some minutes.

Nobody loves Mobley more than me. I proposed moving Brown for the second overall pick or third overall pick to get Mobley when Cunningham was taken first overall. Mobley falling to three should not have happened, just like Doncic falling to three and Tatum to three never should have happened. Yes, Brown is a young all-star, but Mobley (like Doncic and Tatum) is a young potential future HOFer and the likely ROTY. Sadly, the Mobley ship has sailed.

Schröder for Green would be ok, though, unless the Warriors or Suns are willing to give a future first for him. Otherwise, would rather have Green than a second-round pick or Schröder.
