I want McCollum. How do we get him?

I’ve long thought that two of our biggest weaknesses are shooting and the lack of a true third scorer. While I still believe in the Tatum/Brown pairing, I think we’ve largely failed to surround them with the appropriate supporting cast, particularly a lack of shooting and playmaking.

That’s where I think McCollum slides in as the perfect fit with his shooting and playmaking. He’d be a perfect *actually obtainable* third wheel to the Jays, and he’d allow the team to always have two of them on the court at all times, which would significantly help our O. And with Portland seeming intent on sticking with Dame, they look willing to trade McCollum to upgrade their roster.

So how do we get him? I think any conversation starts with Smart, who would actually be an ideal fit in Portland next to Lillard to help with their atrocious D. Billups would also probably really help Smart on the offensive side of the ball.

My dream scenario is something built around Smart, Horford, and picks/other aspects for McCollum and Nance, who I’d love to see here and form a nice three-big rotation with Timelord and Williams. Though I’m unsure of how realistic that is.

What are some realistic trade ideas for nabbing McCollum?

Have you seen his numbers this year and his salary going forward? Believe he has a bad lung too. Hard pass for me.

Edit-his 3pt shooting percentage is way up from earlier in the season. Still not a huge fan considering his age, contract, and the fact that he’s not a very good defensive player.

We don't have a chance if Portland is making a win-now trade. They will need a 2nd star back in return to play alongside Dame. We are not giving up Jaylen for McCollum and have nothing lesser to offer that is sufficient.

The only hope is if Portland makes a win-later trade where they trade McCollum for prospects and/or picks. And then hope the market is weak and that Boston's offer of multiple picks can win the day.

Not from my knowledge of him. Kemba’s main issue we’re being small, having a streaky shot, and relying too much on his speed/athleticism that the knee injuries ruined for him.

McCollum is several inches taller and heftier. He’s a much better shooter, and his game is much less reliant on athleticism.

I'm fine with any of these 5 pennies for a nickel proposals as long as we're getting the nickel. I'm not sure our opponents will cooperate, but it certainly doesn't hurt to try. He is 30, but at this point, I'm willing to overlook that.

Respectfully disagree, another star isn't going to get the ball moving in tight games and in crunch time in the 4th quarter.

Jaylen Brown will not except McCollum or any other shooter taking shots from him. This team needs a floor general point guard that can score a little, and a coach that isn't frightened to not be friends with his players. And yes, perhaps a veteran, reasonably priced shooter off the bench.

This team needs discipline.

I like McCollum for his shooting and off-ball threat ability and agree that he's theoretically attainable, but the problem is that he'd actually fit really nicely next to Smart (who could share PG responsibilities with him and cover for his defensive deficiencies), but, as you laid out, I don't see any McCollum deal making sense for Portland where they don't get Smart back. Also, his age/contract/injury history might be too risky at this point. I'd be willing to take that kind of risk if we seemed to be in striking distance of making a real run, but we currently suck.

I like McCollum but he's a win now player and I don't think the Cs as constructed are a win now team.  I also think Philly can and will beat any offer the Cs can make.

Smart would pair much better with Lillard.  Probably we would need to add something to this, picks or young players but we just don't have all that much that other teams would be interested in.
