Point guard play is what we need. Smart is a six man. Who do we trade for is the question?
HOW do we trade for someone is the question.  We have very few assets and supposedly two of them people don't want to trade.  The only other sort of value is Rob and that's it.

I honestly didn’t know that Cousy was still alive. So this is excellent news.

Funny, that was my first thought. That being said, he’s not wrong.
Straight blasphemy.  He's not only alive, we hear from him (like now) fairly regularly.

Cousy, Russell, Sanders - not sure if anyone else from the earlier dynasty years.

I agree with Cous - a floor general. Someone who can control the weather - gets the on court respect to run the offense. Sure as heck isn’t Smart.

I think he's right. I've said for the last several years the team needs a floor general (Rondo, Rubio, CP3, Simmons, Conley type).

I don't consider IT, Kyrie or Kemba to be floor generals. They are scorers.
The floor general point guards seem like a dying breed unfortunately.  I'd be happy with a point forward too.  Anyone who can handle and pass in the half court would be a step in the right direction.

With so many shoot first young PGs coming into the league the floor general type guards are scarce. The current situation makes it sting a little more that the Cs where two picks away from landing Halliburton.

Ok, well maybe we can find a middle ground and just get a starting caliber PG of any kind on our roster.

Worthwhile to overpay for one?  Or not.  I really like Kyle Lowry - wish Cs had found a way to get him.

the bolded is a big deal.  young talented AAU / High school players are almost exclusively groomed to be scorers.   Thus the field of candidates is small.  that said, there are guys out there that would seem to fit that role, but most of them are going to be really tough to trade for.  Haliburton, Ball, someone said Van Fleet.  How are we going to get one of those guys?

Plus those guys are as young or younger than the Jays.  It feels like we need a vet who will give some tough love when needed.  Those 3 I mentioned aren't going to be doing that.  Smart has tried, and at times that has helped, but I don't think he is the long term solution either.

He would have checked a lot of boxes, but how many more years will he play?  is he still even around in 3-4 years when JT/JB are at their peak?

No but buys 2 or 3 years to find/cultivate a new PG.  Yam?  Maybe not, but you get the point (so to speak)

I think Lowry would have made a huge difference in this team, but he signed for 3 years/$85 million with the Heat.  That's probably more than the team would want to spend on a guy his age.  But he would be perfect- especially his personality.

Bane could've run the point. >:(
are you referring to desmond banes? the guy is averaging 2.0 assists a game over his first two years in the nba? The guy who averaged 2.4 assist a game over his 4 years in college ball?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

"There’s something wrong," Cousy told The Boston Globe's Dan  Shaughnessy. "It’s just schoolyard. Run up and down and take the first shot that shows. There doesn’t seem to be intelligent direction

Couldn’t agree more with this pithy, concise summary statement.

Here’s a question: Assuming that the Cous is correct AND assuming that no one on the roster can provide this “intelligent direction, WHO IS RESPONSIBLE, THEN, FOR PROVIDING INTELLIGENT DIRECTION?

Ime is that deer in the headlights.

Smart's averaging 4 for his career. Bane is however shooting 41% from 3 while Smart is shooting 29%. You couldn't get Bane for Smart and a 1st round pick.

Love is playing well in Cleveland.

How about Schroeder, Romeo and G. Will (and Juancho) for Rondo and Markkanen...Markkanen's 3 point percentage is below Grant's this year...but maybe it'll come around again.

Rondo, Pritchard
Brown, Smart, Nesmith
Tatum, Richardson
Markkanen, Horford
R. Will, Horford, Freedom

Agree with everyone. The team needs an on the floor director.

I really like Grant...and believe in Romeo too...this one would be tough for me but I think some of you would love it..

EDIT: have to give them Juancho too...to make it work...
