Mind you, that's as Celtics. Jaylen scoring 50 tonight means the C's have two players on the team at the same time to score 50 or more points in a game as a Celtic.

The only other time was when the Celtics had Larry Bird and Kevin McHale on the team at the same time.

Bird was 26 and McHale 27 when they broke the 50 point barrier(Bird for the 1st time, he did it 4 times total). Tatum was 22 and Brown 25 when they broke the 50 point mark their first times.

Bird and McHale would make magic together when in their prime. Neither Jaylen nor Jayson are near their prime. You gotta keep them together to see what magic they can create when in their primes.

It obviously means that it makes them easier to trade. ;)

Are you saying you wanna keep Jaylen Brown? Just double checking.

You know how many times pierce scored 50 in his career? Once. We have two all star wings that have done it by the age of 25.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Bird & McHale & Max made all sorts of magic from the start. Took McHale a couple of seasons to increase his minutes and scoring, but there was never an issue with those three guys, along with Parish, playing together as a combined unit. That is an issue with J&J.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Are you implying these two peaked early? Trade them now based on history? lol

With our best player out against the second worst team in the league, JB scores 50 in…a game that goes into OT. Why the heck are we landing in OT against the second worst team in the league?

What would have been far more impressive is beating Orlando by 30-50 points. That’s what a championship team would do against the second worst team in the league.

Might want to look at almost everyone else on the roster for an answer to that question. Yes, his turnovers sucked(2 of which were caused by other players), but so did the other 14 turnovers by others.

In regulation Brown was 17-27 from the field, 4-9 from three, 7-8 from the line for 47 points with 10 rebounds and an ungodly 76.7% TS%. His block of Carter was the defensive play of the game. He literally scored 47% of the team's points in regulation.

Brown and Tatum consistently show, they are not the problems on this team. It's most everyone else. Timelord needs to play every game. Pritchard and Romeo need to play consistently and not disappear every other game. Horford has to start shooting way better. Smart needs to shoot less and pass more without the too cute and flashy passes that turn into turnovers. Schröder has to become more consistent and less ball dominant. Grant has to continue his great play. Richardson too.

And Ime has to coach much better. This is a major key. Udoka has been underwhelming. His ATOs might be the worst in the league. His offensive scheme with lack of off ball movement and/or poor off ball movement that cuts into the paint clogging driving lanes has to get better. The team's pace has to quicken. They need more fast break points. That's Ime's job to solve.

Not dissing the accomplishment — because we needed Brown to score 50 in the game to have a sniff of winning it — but scoring was far lower in Pierce’s era. Fair to say his numbers would have been higher in the modern era of defensive rules.

The players that have scored 50pts or more the most are not from the current era for the most part. In order:

Wilt
Jordan
Kobe
Harden
Baylor
Rick Barry
Lebron
Lillard
Allen Iverson
Kareem

Meh, not a ton to learn from that list — it’s largely all time greats. Biggest take away for me: I don’t think Dame Lillard would have had so many such games in the Jordan >> Iverson (Pierce) era.

No KD or Steph, but Rick Barry and Elgin Baylor?

You know those dudes were really good, right? They also played in highly offensive eras of basketball.

Regardless, I’m not sure looking at 50 point games is the best measure of a player’s value. Iverson was a great scorer but took about 75% of his teams shots for quite some time.

Great point and that was my favorite era of the Celtics.  Now, who is our "Joe Barry Carroll" that we trade for Robert Parish?  lol
