The new point guard is gonna have to come in the draft, IMO.
C’s are more than likely picking outside of the top 10, So I’m not sure drafting a point guard and waiting 2-3 years for them to develop is the best plan.
Rondo was the 21st pick and was a starter on the title team 2 years later. So it isn’t crazy either.
It also snows in Florida.
We can either pay a huge price for one of the few points out there that have already proven they are ready to be the lead playmaker on a title contender, or we can identify a less proven talent, pay less and bet they develop.
We don't have to just live with the draft positions we have. We are going to have to pay to get what we want. At some point we have to take a shot, or we just won't be a contender. We have talent, but we don't have a decision maker that can lead you through a playoff game against a tough team.
You can argue about what strategy gives us the best odds of getting the player we need. But so far, we haven't deployed any strategy.
Chicago is 27-14. They went and got Lonzo Ball and drafted Ayo Dosunmu. Not exactly earth shattering moves, but they were smart, focused decisions. It can work to do smart things when given the opportunity, even if they don't solve everything. Its better than doing nothing.
