He is just so much quicker and fluid this year.Everybody knows about weight loss but it looks like he is developing a defensive IQ that has him countering the offensive player .Added is the refs allowing players to use their upper body strength while cutting players off as they attempt to turn the corner

I had written Grant off because of last season and his lack of length and athleticism leading to being foul prone.

Most improved player by a large margin from me at this point of season..
His reaction time and lateral  timing are growing. As he adjusts to his trimmed down physique freeing his range of movement and refs letting the players play NBA basketball..
His passing is improving and  his stats from corner and shooting the three are at elite level hitting elite and is starting to gather attention. This spreads the floor .
There were a couple of defensive positions last night that were almost ballet like as he matched the offensive player with perfectly countered reactions.

He's a totally different athlete this year.  His lateral quickness has been pretty amazing.  At times he's been as quick shuffling laterally as the player he's guarding who is running in a straight line.  I've been really impressed with him.  He is looking like a prime PJ Tucker right now, but with more size.

Grant has learned to use his superior strength to his advantage, actually, on both sides of the ball.  Moving him to SF was key in that respect.

Dude is strong and he works hard. 4-year college kids are less common these days...

Grant only played 3 years of college ball but graduated after three years. He is extremely intelligent(got accepted to Harvard) and still very young at 23, after 3 years in the pros and 3 years in college.

They're even less common than you think, as Grant was only a 3-year college kid. But you are right about using his strength to his advantage. He also has fewer of those cheap 'not me' fouls when the guy next to him is laid out on the ground. And I obviously love his 3-point improvement.

Edit: Nick beat me to it. Guess I should get my act together when actually opening a thread.

I'd like to see the Cs aggressively shop everyone but Tatum, Brown and the Williams Bros before the deadline in an effort to land a top 50 player.

I think the Cs should try to retain Grant as a critical role player for the future. He's really the only role player (with the possible exception of Pritchard if the Cs can dump Schroder for a pick) I think the Cs should resist strongly in letting go of in such a deal.

Only other player that sticks out to me is Richardson. I just get the feeling the guy is finding a fit in Boston, and /or his salary will make for good filler in trades next season if not.

I've sort of fallen in love with the idea of trying to get Siakam. He could start next to Rob but play small ball 5 next to Grant. Could be awesome if he were available.

I’m in the anti-Siakum boat. Him, Tatum and Brown on the same team would be a disaster in my opinion.

You better talk to Brad Stevens because he started the Tatum point forward nonsense.

So now Grant Williams is a beloved role player? I always liked Grant but he was butchered on a lot of posts on here.

you do know you are reading CS? just wait for Grant to have a bad game. the pendulum of public opinion will swing back quickly.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I know. I should be happy no one's posted anything snide about it yet.

In terms of players on their rookie contracts next season, Grant is our best player. He’s a lunch pail kind of guy with a high BBIQ. Frankly, he’s our best hope of moving Tatum back to the three in a year or less.

Grant has stepped it up on defense this year but be fair, I thought he was fantastic from the get go.  That’s why I never lost faith in him; just so valuable as a switchable big.  And yes, he can absolutely punish wings down low.  Again, not a surprise to me at all.
