Romeo might have some surprising Core strength he doesn't back down from taller bigger players and his length and wingspan is almost 7ft.He has sneaky athleticism as he gets up quick and high for  those weakside rebounds again that wingspan just fools the vets..He stopped Garland a couple times and with his length catching up in the lane after getting over a screen .Without that screen he just stopped Garland with his lateral or forced players to give up the ball
.He had a punch out rebound ,a weakside up there rebound, bothered Kevin Love on a three, forced him to give it up after trying to get in the lane, a steal in the lane on a post up..I really enjoy defense and it seems Romeo is gifted in that area and a willing passer with the Jays
You can't teach the stuff he does..His father raised him to be a stoic and his body language and not having his hands in place in the corner hes like lulling me to sleep then has that long first step.I watch his defense glued to the screen.I think when he goes left he has no left hand he come back to right and it is exposed to the big's and
he gets forced into awkward shots just bailout kinds.

Really liked his defense. Very good against quicker guards and strong enough to defend a lot of bigger players. A few times he got switched onto Love and had to defend in the post. He did pretty well, even got a steal.

Hope he figures out how to finish with the ball.
He has the tools to be a pretty solid 2-way player.

Cs fans who wish Langford is actually good are just as lost as Romeo. Stop pretending.

Pretending he’s a good defender? He is. That is not up for debate.

Question is whether his offense develops.

Keep in mind this player is 22 years old.

He’s averaging .7 threes per game on 35% shooting. He has 11 steals (total) on the season. He averages less than 5 points per game while he drifts around. His PER is below 9.

He has virtually no impact on the game. If we had a real bench, he wouldn’t play.

By comparison, Max Strus — who we had in as a rookie at the same time — is a legit NBA bench player. But because we had so many (bad) rookie contracts, he cut him lose so we could keep the likes of Langford and Edwards. It’s infuriating.

You got your facts wrong. We cut Max to keep Javonte Green on the roster. Most supported that  move at the time.

Wait, you telling me a player 3 years older, who played 4 college years, is more prepared for the NBA? Color me surprised. But good for him for finding his way to contribute at this level.

And as mentioned above, Langford had ZERO to do with Max being cut, or Edwards for that matter.

Romeo is still largely in the same place he was last year:  good versatile defense, but his offense needs work across the board.

He's showing flashes though.  Hopefully he stays healthy enough to work things out.

Langford’s best defensive skill is on-ball defense, so while he gets about a steal/36 minutes that isn’t where he shines. How well do players shoot when he defends them? I don’t know how to find the stat, but the eye test tells me does excellent work. Did you notice that when we played Cleveland Ime put Romeo on Garland and had Smart playing Rubio?

Also, he’s clearly a very good rebounder for a guard. His per-36 is 6.3 rebounds a game.

I think what we saw against Cleveland is what we might expect if he got more run with the starters. He fills the corners and he’s either ready for a pass, attacks a closeout, or is ready to cut to the hoop for a pass or a rebound. That was a nice game - 11 points, 9 boards, 2 steals, solid defense. We could do worse from the fifth starter.

He’s (obviously) a limited offensive player right now, and that puts a ceiling on him. But given how well he starts his moves I’m not convinced he can’t learn to finish better. I say it’s too soon.

People keep crying for Matisse Thybulle and meanwhile Romeo is basically that player with fewer steals and better offensive potential.

This is a great point. Major TP. Thybulle is a virtual zero on offense. His shooting from 3 makes Romeo Langford look like Larry Bird. And yet just for his defense the Sixers rely on him, while Celtics fans talk longingly about how we need a player like him.
