Amid another COVID-19 outbreak within the Celtics frontcourt, Boston will be getting some roster reinforcements in the coming days. League sources tell MassLive.com that the Celtics will be signing forward Justin Jackson to a 10-day contract with a hardship exception. Shams Charania of the Athletic was first to report the news.

Boston is currently without five players in NBA health and safety protocols (Al Horford, Grant Williams, Juancho Hernangomez, Sam Hauser, Jabari Parker), including the majority of the team’s depth at power forward.

The 6-foot-8 Jackson last played for Oklahoma City and Milwaukee last season. He was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and has averaged 6.6 points and 2.5 rebounds over his four-year NBA career. He’s averaged 22.6 points and 7.7 rebounds for the Texas Legends in the G-League during the 2021-22 season.

I always liked Jackson. I thought he'd be better than he's been. Interested to see him play.

Wish they had signed Cheik Diallo instead. I know this team needs shooting, but I remain convinced he could be a diamond in the rough.

Yeah, and I am starting to feel the same way about Nesmith. I don’t know why Jackson flamed out, but if Nesmith can’t shoot consistently he’s going to have the same career trajectory. At the moment I am still interested in seeing Nesmith play, but he’s not looking like he deserves time to figure it out.

Funny how we lost practically all of our power forwards to covid protocols. Did the big man coach infect them or something?

All I’ve seen are highlights, so in other words a few seconds before he makes a shot. I mention that because he doesn’t look well-suited to play NBA defense. Doesn’t look to have a great lower body, either in terms of strength or mobility, and has a high center of gravity.

It seems a little off to call him a “power forward”, since there’s no power in his game. Better to call him a swing, or a stretch-4.

He appears to have a scorer’s mentality, a good stroke with a quick release, and some ability to shoot off the dribble.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

Nesmith is only 22 and is only getting 2 3 point shots a game... He's still working it out. He plays hard all time.

JRich just entered protocols and JT has a bum ankle. It’s very possible that Jackson gets some run in the next few games, assuming the Celtics are able to dress 8 players.

Sure, but the same thing gets said for a lot of young players, but some just never figured it out.

Witness Justin Jackson- drafted #15 by the Kings:

Some thought he should have gone higher - Mike Wise - “Justin Jackson has fallen too far. He’s got the next Shawn Marion written all over him!”

Others were ecstatic when he was drafted by the Kings - Oliver Maroney - “The Kings are winning this draft…Jackson and Fox are going to be very good.”

I guess the Mavs bought into the “next Shawn Marion, just needs a change of scenery” thing when he was traded to Dallas?

Nesmith might be getting a change of scenery before next season too.
