Curious what others think. It has gotten a little ridiculous the last few weeks with the hornets, nets, magic, bucks trotting out their g league affiliate teams and teams like the Celtics and lakers missing key players. I don’t personally think it is good for the integrity of the league when the magic trot out 4 emergency ten day contract guys to get blown out by the heat or the bucks lose to the pelicans cause they are down to one starter.

Why would they when they can get the same revenues despite trotting out a subpar product?

I have less of a concern about replacement players and more of a concern about arenas with 20k fans, but yes, I think they should pause.

Yeah, there are some weird rules out there right now. I've been to maskless games, concerts, packed shopping malls and theme parks - all in FL; but was also on a cruise recently and it was only at about 1/4 of the capacity. It's funny that people are willing to do all of these activities in packed quarters, but have chosen cruises as the thing they won't do - despite there being major safeguards in place to prevent transmission (full vaccinated only, testing requirement before boarding, masks indoors, no self-service buffet, etc).

Anyway, sorry to take this off-track. As for the question at hand, I think they just have to stick it out. It's rough and unfair to some teams (see Cs last season), but it is supposedly equal opportunity. This thing isn't going to end just because teams pause - it would have to get much worse than it is now for them to do anything.

With Omicron cases doubling every 2-3 days, it won’t take very long for things to get “much worse.”

I doubt they will    Most businesses where I live are back full bore , and I see no sign they are in no mood to shut down another 6 months . That’s the feedback I’m getting from this area .

pretty much each man for himself at this point,  Kyrie going back to work or play ,  yet there seems to still be 1500 or so dying per day in good ol US of A.

I think we will reach million dead .

A million is a given at this point.  Question is by this time next year will we be at 2 million.

I would be surprised if this was not impacting revenue. Like last night the magic were playing Wendell Carter, robin lopez and gleague guys. If I lived in the area I wouldn’t pay to see that. I was a fan in New Orleans last night and it was my one chance of year to see Giannis and Middletown I would be pretty disappointed to watch Demarcus cousins starting alongside some low level players. Now I agree if the argument is it is going to be like this for months a pause would be pointless. But it seems like we have a specific outbreak right now on nets, bucks, bulls, Orlando etc and only Chicago has been postponed.

If they believe that a pause would fix the issue, then they should pause for a couple of weeks.  If the same thing will continue after a pause then there is no point in pausing
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

If the Celtics score more points than the knicks today they will win. If they score less they will lose.

Obvious statements aside here is a list of the players currently out with covid or injured off the top of my head. This is just key role players or stars

Giannis
Middleton
Derozen
Lavine
Durant
Harden
Irving (activated but now in protocols.
Bam
Butler
Hero
Jerami Grant
Barrett
Quickley
Maxey
Lavine
Derozen
Mobley
Sexton
Doncic
Paul George
Morant
Anthony Edwards
The entire roster of the Orlando magic
Booker
Fox

I mean if the all star game was held this weekend, who would even play for the east besides Trae Young, JB, Tatum and Embid?

Maybe there's is also concern of being stuck at sea?

That's just the thing, though. They aren't going to leave people stranded out at sea ever again due to Covid. And, as far as crowds go, it's just nowhere near what I've seen at other venues. The cruise line definitely took a hit because of the reaction when it happened and people's minds still haven't changed on the subject. Like, you should see the crowds at Disney and Universal - and it is going to get 10x worse starting now through the next two weeks.

I think with cruising, concerts, sports (including the NBA), etc they are just going to keep going along as much as they normally can. The only thing that will stop any of this is another total shutdown. And I doubt that will happen unless a variant comes along that kills far more people - including vaccinated people - than we've already seen.

Maybe if you're near a US port, you're correct, but that's definitely not true with every country.

Heck no. Get on with it. Treat it like any other injury crisis. This is the new normal. We need to learn to live with it.
