  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I mean, we didn't even give him the full MLE and didn't guarantee him a starting spot. With our team very unlikely to turn into contenders anytime soon, of course he is available and should be. I like Schroder and would re-sign him for the full MLE in the offseason if he would agree to it, but I can't imagine he is chomping at the bit to play for a meh team at a meh salary.

Hopefully we can snag a late 1st. I get it, it is likely a one-year rental for any team trading for him, but his salary is such that a number of teams have big enough TPEs or at least a rookie scale salary to match.

Sounds good ,  move a shooter and scorer who actually plays point guard the right way .

Replace him with a cheap short sawed off guard who can’t guard or shoot …..that’s seems like the normal pattern of doing things in Boston , works for me  ;)

Everyone but the Jays Tatum and the Williams Bros should be available

Brown is untouchable? Anyway, fixed it for ya.

Thought there was gonna be some meat.  Like maybe an actual trade partner with what they might be offering.  Anyway, the Schröder thing is a win-win. Cs expend nothing and pick up an asset.  Schröder comes in and gets a boost to his reputation and may end up on a contender. .

Brown should be untouchable unless being traded for a clearly better player. Trading Brown for two or more lesser players should never happen.

If the Celtics are finally looking to take a pragmatic approach to roster construction (unlike Ainge's final years at the helm), they'll trade him. We need to get shooters to surround Brown & Tatum, not other volume scorers.

What kind of package would people want/expect for Schroder?

If we could get a late first, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd then use that pick plus our own pick(s) to go after Simmons >> Siakam > Christian Wood > Jerami Grant. Don't think Schroder can fetch a late first though.

I'd expect us to receive lowball offers involving second(s) + possibly marginal cap relief. If so, I'd just keep him. Very few teams will have cap space next summer. We may get lucky once again and re-sign him via Early Bird Rights. Or we may dump/cut Horford's partially-guaranteed contract and gain access to the non-taxpayer MLE.

Agreed. Shooters & ball-handlers & passers. Guys who can get the offense moving.

I think Denver might be interested in a trade for a guard to help them get to the playoffs. I'd trade Schroeder for bones Hyland and a second. I live in Richmond, and VCU is local. He's going to be a good pro.

We won't be decent unless we incorporate the other players into the offense better.  Need a PG who can run the offense. That's not in Tatum or Brown's DNA.

I would hope a first is possible.  His contract is very cheap, so virtually every team could be in the market for him.
