Al is getting $27 mm this season. He is only guaranteed $14.5 mm next season, sliding up depending on if he makes it to finals this season ($19.5 mm) or wins chip this year ($26.5 mm).
I think Al may have peaked, and his max trade value is like right now. I think over the season his age will show. Plus with EK Freedom's emergence, and a return of Rob (plus Jabari playing some back up minutes as small ball 5), we may be able to do fine without Al. Love the guy, but thinking ahead here.
I can think of a few teams contending for a championship that would be very interested in him:
GS Warriors. They really struggled last night defending against the Ayton. Al would fit in perfectly there. What could we expect to get in return? Hard to get salaries that come close to matching. Wiseman only makes $9mm. Warriors aren't trading Green, and doubt they trade Wiggins (plus doubt we would want him).
Miami Heat. Al would fit in very well there. Adabayo is getting surgery and is out for 6 weeks. Al would be great back up at the 5 and some minutes at that 4. We could ask for Robinson ($15.5 mm) who may be available, as he is slumping (low 30s from 3 this season) and Tyler Herro eventually will be starting for him anyway IMO.
Nets. Griffin doesn't play anymore. Al would be a good fit at the starting 5 or back up to Aldridge. Maybe for Joe Harris, who makes $17.4 and filler.
ATL. This team could really use Horford. He'd be a great fit. Return to his original franchise. I'd ask for Boggy, they'd probably offer Gallinari, which I would decline. Their other desirables have salaries that are just too low to match up. (and you can forget about Collins, he's not available for Al Horford!!)
Hornets. Not really contenders, but.....Would they consider trading Terry Rozier? Hard to say. He has been playing real well for them. What if we packaged Horford and Smart for Hayward and Rozier? Would you pull the trigger on that? I certainly would consider it.
Bring it on!!!
