Did all the weight-training he did to muscle up during the off-season screw up his shot ?
Bigger, tighter muscles can interfere with a fluid shooting motion.

I think it is Olympic fatigue plus the new ball.

Shooting is down league-wide, and the guys who played in the Olympics are struggling especially

Idk, Tatum looked like he was happy wearing a yellow Lakers jersey last month. If that's where his heart truly is, then better start looking for trade pieces

I didn't know we could read that much into a TNT photo-shoot. Interesting.

Guess CP3 is on his way here then?

Bigger, tighter muscles can interfere with a fluid shooting motion.

players do it every year. jordan hit the weights aggressively after the pistons manhandled him in the playoffs, and his shooting only improved, as did his ability to absorb contact and get to the rim.

when do we stop the desperate excuse making on tatum’s behalf? year six? year eight? ten?

I think it’s this. If Brown was healthy, I wouldn’t be averse to maybe shutting down Tatum for 2 weeks. Just get him rested idk

It was just a thought - yes, many players work at the weights and if done correctly, with lots of shooting before and after, the extra strength does not affect their shooting touch.

I agree with a lot of what you say Mahk. I think the guy is a soft competitor as well. Very skilled scorer, but not a gritty player. I had thought handing the team over to Tatum and Brown and building around them was the best way to go, but am not so sure any more. Two young all-star level forwards, along with finally ridding ourselves of the ball-dominant, score-first point guard looked promising. But they just don't seem to complement each other well, like say Bird and Max did,  maybe because their offensive games are so similar. They just take turns with the ball. May have to move one to construct a more complimentary roster.

It's not going to happen at this point, but for the sake of discussion, what do you think the addition of a guy like Jimmy Butler would do for this team and for Tatum's mentality specifically. Would it light a fire under him or would he be unhappy and go into a shell ?

COVID is the only explanation I can think of.

He's taking mostly the same shots, he's just not finishing near the rim or hitting outside shots ....

To me that seems like a legs issue.

Yet, he was good player at the end of last year even after Covid.  So I doubt it was that with all the 40+ scoring games.

He is a hot dog, and I think that is part of the problem.   He would rather make a great move, than make a basket.  He over complicates everything with unnecessary movements.

Also. all this pressure on him to create and pass is making him overthink.   Some guys are scorers, plain and simple and he may be one of those guys.

I had so much confidence in him and now that confidence is waning.   Maybe that’s what it is - he’s lost the edge that may have come from self-confidence. His drives in particular look like a guy afraid to lose the ball.   I agree that with Brown on the court JT will be less the focus providing more room, but it’s got to be weighing on him that he loses the handle so frequently and makes panicked passes with regularity.  And what’s with his FT shooting?  Previously almost automatic, now definitely not.  Got to be his head.
