The many dangers of a Switch-All Defense.

BOS wants to switch everything, all the time...which actually creates somes issues.

In only 3min, WAS exposes 3 main downsides:

• creates pointless/poor mismatches
• prone to mistakes & miscommunications
• mismatches on the O-Board

So either Udoka is a complete and utter idiot or there is also an upside.

Let's assess after a bit to see whether it works or not.

A lot of teams switch everything.  That said, vs. the Wizards the Celtics didn’t switch everything.  Marcus Smart had Beal, and the rest of the defense switched everything.

It seems similar to what Brad was doing.  They also switch off the ball on the weak side if a small player gets matched up on a big.  A lot of teams have been doing this.

What I'm more concerned about is the frequent miscommunications between our players (as pointed out in bullet #2) and our mistake of often going under the screen even on good shooters.  We're getting burned at the 3 point line.

It's an inadequate sample size sure, but right now we're 22nd in defensive rating, 20th in FG% allowed (45.8%, which obviously is not good), and 25th in defending the 3 point line (allowing 38.1%).  This is according to NBA.com stats.  I expect to finish in the top 10 in each of these categories by the end of the season given the personnel we have.

I think you misunderstood the post.

I am not making any sudden judgment, it’s just information and footage I thought was interesting and worthy of sharing on the forum.

Scheme makes it sound like there is a plan.

I am actually curious how many successful team seasons have come from a rookie nba head coach, without any previous head coaching experience (college, overseas or g-league) and under a first year president of basketball operations.

I’d say it would be especially hard because usually rookie head coaches come from within the team infrastructure like Phil Jackson & Nick Nurse, so it’s a smooth transition.

What about Spoelstra (just off the top of my head, I might be completely wrong).

Phil Jackson only coached loaded teams, think about that and that helped his coaching record quite a bit.
