This stuff about Wyc being cheap is crazy. This isn't poker, you don't go all in if you don't have a really good hand, and you don't over invest in a business or product that is so obviously underachieving.

When the J's show basketball maturity and a growing BBIQ, that's when you go all in.

That might never happen in Boston. Cs are on the clock with both of them. They might leave in two years.

That's how it goes sometimes. It's fine, we'll deal with it. This isn't a 1 year franchise. Or a 2 year one.

Build back. We'll get there again.

Lotta new blood in the org. Lotta change over the past months.

I'm here for it :]

Fournier's last 8 games:

9 PPG, 3 RPG, 2 APG 38% FG, 23% 3PT

I'm not sure if we're missing anything with his recent production. Might as well roll with our players who can't score but defend

I am starting to view this Cs team as similar to the early Beal and Wall Wizards teams, good enough to reach the finals but not great enough to win the whole thing. The Wizards spent big money on middling players around Wall and Beal and got onto the mediocrity treadmill.  Hopefully Stevens can surround the J's with enough talent to put the Cs in contention.  I don't think this is the year unfortunately.

Signing Fournier is exactly the sort of move that handicapped the Wizards.

I agree totally. We haves some growth this year. Jaylen has been hurt. Unless Kyrie comes back or simmons is traded. The Bucks seem to be the team to beat with the Bulls and Wiz making noise. IMO we need to trade Smart and use his salary on Schroeder unless we can find a partner for Schroeder but they can't play together.  Right now i am happy we did not waste money on Fournier. We need a trade after the 15th to shake things up!

I remember, after the first game of the season, how eager people were to roast the Celtics brass. Fournier had a career game, scoring 32 against the Cs, hitting 3 after 3. He even played some defense. In fairness, that was a pretty bad night for the team and Fournier showed something the team badly needs: shooting!

But it wasn’t that hard to see that the Cs’ defense was a mess and it was only one game. I wasn’t convinced he’d repeat that, or anything close to it. Well, it’s too soon to say whether he’ll turn it around but he sure has fallen since that stellar first night. He’s sitting at 12 points a game. The three point shooting is a little below league average - 35% - and because he doesn’t get to the line and his 2 point shooting is bad, his true shooting percentage is well below league average at 52.5%. That’s behind Josh Richardson, who is actually good at defense.

Could Boston use EF better than the Knicks? Probably. Is it a no-brained that Boston should have cut Smart loose and paid him $20M a year? Heck no. Especially if Smart keeps playing the way he has. And we know Smart’s top gear is much better than Fournier’s, come playoff time.

A bunch of players % are down think it's a few factors involved. Fournier is a solid starter. I was okay letting him go until BS went extension crazy.

Then there’s this from BSJ:

Smart and Schroder have “a +8.0 net rating together in 355 minutes, including a 100 defensive rating that ranks fourth among Boston's two-man combos. By comparison, Kemba Walker and Smart posted a +1.6 last year. Walker and Evan Fournier are losing their minutes by -12.7 per 100 possessions in New York.”

Would a Fournier-Schroder combo do as well as Smart and Schroder have been doing? Maybe, but I doubt it.

- We dumped Theis for practically nothing at last season's trade deadline. He was our starting Center at the time.
- We were unwilling to match NY's offer for Fournier during the offseason.

Let's face it, Wyc is cheap.
I feel bad for Theis. He should be a bench 5 for a good team, not stuck in Houston

He signed a 3-year, $26 million deal to be stuck in Houston, with a team option in year 4.  Tough to feel too bad for him.

Yes, stick it out in a warm weather city and at 32 have... $10-15 million in the bank.  It's a sacrifice.
Well, yes, when you put it like that ;D

Houston sucks though and I don't just mean the team.  Houston is imo by far the worst big city in the US.  It is ugly, hot as hell, has terrible sprawl, is poorly designed, etc.  I'd literally rather live in any other NBA team city and it isn't close.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

They’ve got a really amazing museum, though.  Haha.  Otherwise I agree, it’s just not a great city.

I think it warrants mentioning it is probably more white people that think Houston sucks (I say this as a white person). A lot of the former players have said it is a very desirable city to live in along with Atlanta.
