When asked if he knows the benchmarks he has to hit to make the Lakers’ closing lineup, Russell Westbrook said: “I shouldn’t have to hit any benchmarks, to be honest. I put a lot of work in. I got a lot of respect in this game. … I earned the right to be in closing lineups.” – via Twitter jovanbuha

Gotta love seeing the Lakers implode.  Hopefully this creates a chemistry bomb.

I pray some idiot GM doesn't bail them out between now and tomorrow afternoon.  How that could happen I don't know.  I just won't be comfortable until it can't happen.

I’m not sure there is a way to bail them out with a single trade.  I swapping John Wall for Westbrook and a 1st going to fix things?  My guess is no.  They’ve got so little they can trade at this point, and so many holes to plug.

Sources have indicated that the Lakers no longer believe they can win at a high level with Westbrook alongside James and Davis, but prior to Tuesday the line of thinking was that the Lakers would be unwilling to wave the white flag and admit their summer blockbuster was a failure. Instead, they would prefer to wait until the offseason, when they could also include a 2029 pick in a potential deal for another max-contract player looking for a new home. – via Bill Oram @ The Athletic

I can see it now:  Westbrook, 2027 #1, 2029 #1 for Lillard

Don't let it happen, NBA.

It appears that Harden is going to be traded for Simmons as the Nets and Sixers are working towards finalizing the trade.  The Nets want at least 2 of Thybulle, Maxey, and Curry.

I saw a proposal on espn with Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier being traded for Westbrook.  I know the Knicks players haven't been very good but I still think all the extra shooting and the subtraction of Westbrook would make the team much scarier than they are now.

Yeah, I saw that proposal too.  The only reason it makes sense for the Knicks is because they have the actual draft assets to turn Westbrook’s contract into a star player next year, but even then I’m not sure it does.  The proposal said lottery-protected pick, and that would be foolish of the Knicks since that protection would expire pretty quickly (at most two seasons) leaving them with 1-2 seconds many drafts away for a $47 million albatross.  I bet if they took back salary next year they could get back seconds for Burks and Fournier.

Westbrook contract is toxic, I doubt anyone is willing to take it on.

Only thing is Thibs is feeling pressure to get the Knicks in playoffs. They are taking a nose dive.  I think he is good for first year, and then guys get tired of his voice. Pretty consistent pattern in his career.

Kemba is largely useless on both ends of the floor nowadays. It would be replacing Westbrook for Fournier, which may be a better fit, but doesn't move the needle much for the Lakers this season imo.
