This may sound silly, but I wish the Celtics would revert back to the previous iteration of Lucky.

This was the version most Celtics fans have know and it’s heavily affiliated with success and Celtic pride.

Debuted in 1974 and used till 1996, the Celtics won 5 championships from 7 Finals appearances while this logo was in use.

The ‘modern’ colorized version has the least associated success and is probably the darkest period in team history.

A small criticism of the present logo is it’s connection to race.

I know it’s a ‘pc’ take but can you think of another successful team that has a caucasian guy as their logo? If anything it’s basic business principle to be inclusive as possible.

Bringing back a classic logo can be a metaphor for inclusivity and that the only color that matters with the Boston Celtics is green.

By this logic, the Celtics should change their name as well, cause they exclude all supporters of non-Celtic descent. They should also bring back the 60s logo cause we were far more successful at the time.

Personally speaking, I absolutely love the current logo. I believe it's the most beautiful logo in the NBA, although I'm obviously biased. :P My only (minor) objection would be the white circle that surrounds the logo on the parquet floor of the Garden (the same goes at the Auerbach Center). What's the purpose of that white circle? I wish they removed it someday.

Some other logos that I like are the ones of the Bulls, the Bucks, the Hawks, the Grizzlies, the Raps and the Hornets logo from the 90s.

I'm with you Jvalin, I hate the white circle around the logo. Those old Finals courts with the trophy painted in the middle would have looked even cooler without it.

This is only a guess but it’d say it’s based on the original jump ball circle

I think that Lucky is in the inner circle and the white is the outer circle.

Yeah, old  three tone logo waaaay better. But I think "lucky" is a bit naff generally and adds nothing... They should just use the clover. There are three version of this - white/green, green/white, and black/green which allows for full court design changeups (although I think the green in the black/green unis needs to be light flouro green - just trust me - and the green in the grey/green unis needs to be a super deep green. AND PLEAAAAASE CAN WE GO BACK TO THE 60s ERA FONT!! So cool.

Rant Over.

The old logo had a white circle too.

The circle looks worse on the green and white logo vs the one with color.

I grew up a fan beginning in the early 70's, I like the refreshed look.

If you have a moment, check out the history of the word caucasian. It's pretty interesting - especially since you're from the States, I would presume, based on the usage of the word.

Generally though, if we're going through the various dumb things to argue about re: the Celtics, this ranks below the pronunciation of the word (Kelt v. Selt) on the broadbrushing of Celtic representation as a leprechaun, to the tenuous nature of folks who claim "Irish" but have to go back a century or more to find a relative that actually lived there.

All of that to say, it doesn't matter. Say the team name how you want. Define your heritage how you want. Immediately jump to leprechauns when you think about "iconic Celtic cultural imagery" if you want. I'd be fine with swapping over the logo to a clover, but sapping the colour out of the logo and otherwise leaving it alone would be a bit peculiar.

In fact, if anything, your suggestion makes it even more of a generic white guy.  ;)

Rather than the logo, my larger pet peeve is that they should always & only wear the white jerseys at home.

Alas, with commercialism the way it is now, we're never going back to that.

My favorite jerseys are black and green.  The green pops better against the black than the white.

I hate people that want to change things.  And, yes, stay off my lawn.  Its mine, not yours.

Good grief, why don't we just get rid of all logos in all sports, just go the "Washington Football Team" route? Or would that be offensive to cartoons?

Just the white jerseys at home and either the black (like the 50s and 60s) sneakers or green, not white or rainbow colors

Yup, seeing red or blue or (*gags*) Lakers purple is sickening.
