Not a fan of having Juancho on our payroll for $7,419,505 in 2022/23. Anyway, it's a minor trade. I guess we finally have our 15-man roster.

100% non-guaranteed so long as he’s waived by June 2022.
Oh that's great! My bad.

Bye, Bye, Grant Williams. He was due $4.3M next year on a team option. Juan’s $7.4M isn’t really a big deal with him off the books. Plus, no more Edwards who had a team option for $2m.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

My bad, it's 100% non-guaranteed for next year. Problem solved! 8)

The Juancho/Jabari/Grant battle for 5 minutes a game at the backup 4 spot is going to be a bloodbath.  :D

It's a purely administrative move to get down to roster size with some extra points for better positional flexibility. Everyone's off the books next year anyways. Not much to see here but glad it's done.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

1.  He’s a PF so that’s a plus

2.  Figured if they wanted a PF from Memphisnit would have been Anderson but oh well.

3.  What exactly does this guy offer (honest question)?

Juan had a pretty decent 2019-2020 during his brief Minnesota part of that year:
14 G

29.4 MP

45.3 FG%

42 3P%

7.3 RB

12.9 PTS

Should be useful.

Also, I'm curious if we had to use one of the trade exceptions on this deal?  We can't aggregate Dunn for salary matching purposes until October, according to Spotrac (they say Oct 7).

EDIT:

Quote from: Woj
Deal can’t be formally completed until September 15, when Dunn and Edwards contracts are allowed to be aggregated in the trade.

EDIT 2:  Under CBA rules, players can't be aggregated until 60 days after they've been acquired.  The trade was formally announced on August 7, so Spotrac would be correct, under the way the CBA is written.

That said, Woj doesn't usually give bad information, so I'm wondering if the aggregation rules were modified somewhat due to Covid issues.
I'm interested in this part as well.
The C's took on about $220k this season. The aggregation makes Hernangomez's contract about the exact amount to get under the tax.
For the pick swap, I wonder who gets the better pick?
How easy would it be to bump Hernangomez + 2nd rd pick-swap into someone's cap space at the deadline?

I guess this also means we will be looking for a PG to fill the second 2-way spot.

I was hoping for Kyle Anderson, but I'm good with this deal.  Hernangomez is likely a better option at the 4 than Grant.  If Grant beats him out, that means he's taken a real step forward, which is fine too.

Juancho is also a larger expiring than Dunn, and thus can bring back a bigger salary/aggregate to bring back a bigger salary if such a deal arises.  And who knows, maybe he'll fit in great and be a viable rotation player at sub-MLE money for next season.

I feel we're probably done with moves for a bit, although I'm now going to vote for cutting Parker and bringing back IT on a 1-year minimum.  Balances the roster better, saves $500lk, and hopefully breaks the curse that the Kyrie trade set upon the franchise.

Love this move. He's a guy who can eat some minutes here and there without killing you (and occasionally taking the other team by surprise).

Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders, who seems to be very plugged in about these issues, has listed Dunn's aggregation date as September 15th for awhile.  I've had it circled on my mental calendar, and was going to start a "Kris Dunn can be traded" thread on September 14th, but Brad beat me to the punch!

Obviously a minor move with a minor impact on the court, but any move for someone with a non-guaranteed contract next year and a higher salary is a small step toward a deal at the deadline if it were to be available and for that I call this a win. Icing on the cake is that it draws from a position with better depth to acquire a position with less depth.

So another all-offense no-defense PF to go alongside Jabari Parker.
