Boston Celtics receive: Karl-Anthony Towns

Philadelphia 76ers receive: Jaylen Brown and Patrick Beverley

Minnesota Timberwolves receive: Ben Simmons, Robert Williams III, Matisse Thybulle, Jaden Springer and 2022 first-round pick (from PHI)

Decent trade concept from Bleacher Report. Depending on Boston's interest in KAT all teams could walk away happy with this deal.

KAT < JB and TL
+1

Interesting trade with KAT involved, he is one player that I would consider trading Brown for but not both Brown and RWilliams.

In this deal, we get KAT, Philly gets Brown, then leave it to Philly and MIN to work out the rest of the deal.

agreed.

KAT's got talent but for all that talent, I just don't see the effort or drive to win.  I do see it with Jaylen so I'd prefer to keep him.  also, if Timelord can stay healthy and produce like he did in the last game, the Center position is covered and we can focus on getting a PF banger or better yet a PG that can run an offense while being a respectable shooter

I'd probably do Towns for Brown and Williams.  I'd try to add Hernangomez as well which I think drops Boston below the luxury tax and opens 2 roster spots for some future flexibility.

So Towns for Brown, Williams, Hernangomez.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Yep.   Why help out Philly?

To get KAT you'd have to give up one of the J's and RWilliams.

Nyet. He doesn’t move the needle that much.

I'd rather just have Timelord + Jaylen than KAT, but I also find KAT a lot less impressive than most people seem too. He's a negative on defense at the most important defensive position which is a big reason his teams never win.

Also I'm not sure why MIN would do a KAT for Brown deal. Those guys have the same number of years left on their contract, so if you are worried about losing KAT then you should also be worried about losing Brown on that same timeframe so what exactly is the point? Any KAT deal is probably gonna be for guys still on their rookie contracts (hence more team control) and draft picks. not for guys who are just as big, if not bigger, flight risks.

I am not sure what you are basing this conclusion on.  You can say you think MIN would ask for Brown + Williams but I don't think in this case this even is relevant because Philly is getting Brown and MIN is getting Simmons.  I think Philly would be so happy to get Brown that they would be willing to give MIN Simmons + more.  And if Williams to Min (along with Simmons from Philly) was the key to the deal, then I would expect Philly to give us something more.  Part of the problem is that Williams has a poison pill contract right now so it is very unlikely he is in any deal.

The point is the a deal involving KAT to Boston, Brown to Philly, and Simmons to MIN is in the ball park of something that could work.  I consider KAT and elite big.  To pair with Tatum with an elite big, even at the expense of a really really good player in Brown, would set up the team very well.

If you want to deal directly with MIN and offer Brown + Williams for KAT, bypassing Philly completely, that is a very different trade for MIN.  Although I feel Brown is a better player than Simmons, or at least has more trade value at the moment, Simmons is likely a better fit for MIN.

I'm personally not a fan of KAT.  Too one side of the ball for such a "superstar".

And yet Minnesota is significantly to the positive with him on the floor (I mean they are much better with him and in some year actually are to the positive on the scoreboard).  Towns isn't really the problem, it is everyone else.  And his defense isn't atrocious.  He isn't a great defender, but he is a serviceable man defender and decent shot blocker.

Hmmm, not really. MIN has a defensive rating of 107.3 this year, good for 17th in the league. But KAT is at 108.7. Last year they were 28th at 114.5, KAT was 114.7. the year before that they were 11.6 good for 20th, KAT was 115.4. MIN is horrible defensively, with his at the most important defensive position, and even worse when he's on the floor than off.

Now I don't love advanced defensive metrics, I think they are pretty lacking. But his advanced defensive numbers are also pretty horrible, like clear negative bottom half of qualifying centers horrible. At the PG or wing position that doesnt kill you, at Center it can.

Look i like the guy, a lot, of course he's a positive player because he's elite offensively. I just think Jaylen+Rob is better for winning than Towns.

I just had an epiphany.

I don't want Simmons on this team at all. I don't like him.

However, if the price is right, I'll take him.

So I've decided, the price is Embiid.

We take Simmons, they give us Embiid.

That's it.

That's the trade.
