I picked Jabari.
Poor fellow, he was overestimated in his draft class. He didn’t have good movement even before his catastrophic injuries, and he is now a very poor defender. If he could shoot better outside the paint he would certainly help his cause.
I’m sure that the coaching staff appreciated his hustle points last season, and I’ve heard that he’s a good teammate. But he cannot seem to get through a season without missing significant time.
If I understand correctly, he now has $100k guaranteed. It’s interesting that Boston let that deadline go by. That could mean that they’ve got a trade for someone else on the roster in mind.
You think the Celtics are worried about $100K?
Anyways, if they can't dump salary everyone is getting a look at training camp.
It's funny how our perspective changes. I would have to think long and hard before chucking away $100K of my money! Your point is well taken, of course - in the context of NBA salaries, that's a small amount. But why throw it away if you're just going to waive him anyway? They wouldn't have owed him even that if they'd waived him a week ago - ergo, they think that they
might keep him, ergo they think that they might trade somebody.
If they don't waive him by opening day, he's guaranteed 50%.
I would've waived him, but there are lots of (good) reasons to sign a 15th man, or whatever he would be.
Kris Dunn is more of an asset than Jabari (he's younger, and he has an NBA skill that he is top 10% at - unlike Jabari); but by the same token he has more direct competition for playing time.
