I hate to admit, but I thought he would develop into another Giannis when the 76ers drafted him. He even had a head start, playing at LSU and being more physically developed. Luckily for us he’s as close to Giannis as Kelly Olynyk is to Dirk.
He does have a lot of tools. He needs to grow up and not be so reliant on his family. His group sounds too insular and has too many people telling him he’s right. That he’s more than good enough. His failure has gotten in his head. It reminds me a bit of Rondo after D-Wade dislocated his arm. He couldn’t hit free throws or 3’s so he drove and dished. He stopped going to the rim, which was his main scoring skill. Sure, he was an elite passer and defender, but his team was playing 4 on 5 because he wouldn’t shoot.
Can Simmons learn to shoot? At least league average? Rondo did, but he bounced around the league before he that happened. Is Simmons satisfied being a 6’10” Rondo? I guess he will be if he gets a ring or two.
I can’t see him in Green, but if he was, Rondo needs to be brought in to talk to him. Rondo has been successful and he got over the “yips.” Maybe he could get through to this guy?
