Options that I see:

1.  Sign him and keep him.  Signing him probably means $15M-$20M.
2.  Sign and trade him.  Maybe for Dejounte Murray?  Kuzma, better than getting nothing?  For just a TPE if that can be worked out?  Someone else (ideas welcome)?
3.  Don't sign him, just let him go.

I think those are really the only options.  Option 2 of course has many possible variations within it as there could be any number of trades (but he has to agree to it).  I think if we sign him and then trade him for a player on a contract that we are not hard capped (the team taking Fournier would be hard capped).

Unless a really good trade option presents itself, I expect we will just sign him and play him.  Kind of an expensive luxury when we already have two really good wings but he is not an asset that we want to just walk away.  We can still trade him later.

Sign him and keep him.

Agreed.  He should be moveable in the future.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I agree with signing him. I think he will be more in the $12-15M/yr range than up to $20M, though. Who with cap space is really in the market for Fournier...MEM? Is MEM really going to offer him $20M/yr?

He wasn't necessarily who I wanted with the TPE, but now that he's here Stevens need to resign him. It may eventually be to match salary in another deal, but in the meantime they need his shooting/production.

Makes no sense for Orlando. They are fully rebuilding, and Fournier is in line to get a long term deal on solid money.

I say we bring him back. He was quite useful in the playoffs and was in quite a rhythm in the month of May. Can offer a bit

i'm leaning towards letting him walk and giving those minutes to langford/nesmith to develope. i like fournier, but i think anything close to 20 millm a season, which is probably what it would take to re-sign him, just isn't worth it.

I really don’t think they traded for him with the intention of just letting him walk. He’s definitely worth $15-20m/year. Chances that Romeo or Naismith turn into a player as good as Fournier is slim.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Letting him go for nothing would be a waste of that Hayward TPE. Even if we sign Fournier just to trade him, that's a lot better

These playoffs actually brought him out of the running for worst accumulated +/- in the playoffs of all time!  He was right there with DeMar at the start of them, he was like -260 or something

I always thought it was Orlando's fault! Him being the #2 option on a playoff team is pretty bad.

What stands out to me from that graph is the four consecutive Hawks in Marvin Williams, Josh Smith, Iso Joe and Al Horford. Woeful playoff performer year-in year-out
