I imagine Kawhi would be back Feb-Mar. Guys have been coming back from these ACL injuries quicker than they used and it is only a partial tear. So the back-end of the season and in time to gear up for the playoffs I expect.

Doubt he opts out of his last year, then; although KD did after he got hurt.

Personally, I think he’s be nuts to play a game next year. He can opt in to next season and take his time recovering, especially considering his injury history. Someone will pay him either way next summer.

depends if he is healthy or not.  Kawhi already has a perceived injury problem.  would certainly help his case if he played next year.

Don’t think it would matter. Some team would still throw him a max even if he sat out.

Doctors in the house; help me out… To my knowledge, the fact that it’s a partial tear in the ACL is meaningless. You can’t surgically repair the ACL if it’s only partially torn, you’d just need to replace the ligament if it’s partially or fully torn. I’m not certain on that, but that’s what I recall from my own knee-related conversations.

So whenever Kawhi comes back, I'm guessing he'll playing only, like, once every 5 games. Right? It's the ultra-ultra-load-management plan.

I read that the estimate was that he would be out for nine months. So that's mid-March. I'm guessing that's all of next season.

This is a tough blow for the Clipps.  They showed in the playoffs that they can be a decent team without Leonard but I wonder if they will just tank (Like GSW did).  Paul George has 4 more years.  Kennard and Morris are 4 and 3 years but other than that, they have a lot of short contracts that they may decide to try and trade.  Certainly any one year deals that could net them picks or flexibility would seem to be worth trading.

As to the contract, that is very tough.  I would think they would work out some kind of extension so that Kawhi lines up with Paul George.  Kawhi just turned 30 in June.  Why not do an extension even if 2021/22 will be a lost season?  Maybe with some protections related to the knee?

I am not sure there is anyone on the roster that the Celtics would target.  I am thinking we have the $11M TPE or something with Thompson and pieces to offer.  Patrick Beverley I guess but what does that really get us (he would not fit the TPE).  They really don't have that much of a roster.

Terrance Mann is a hell of a player.

That is my understanding also.  The repair for a partially torn ACL is the same as a fully torn ACL.  You replace the ligament.  The ACL does not regenerate and heal itself.

Yikes these ACL tears are happening way more than in the 80s and 90s (Bernard King was rare)...maybe it's the shoes??...gripping too hard on the floor??
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Those guys in the 80s and 90s were thinner and could run up and down more. They also didn't do these crazy jumps in high traffic. It was more of a fundamental game. In the age of freak athletism, you are just going to have more freak injuries.
