Cowherd - LA/Por should swap AD for Dame

Had a segment on his show today where he went through why this trade makes sense.  Basically says Lillard is a better fit for Lebron because he actually plays every night (AD missed more games this year than Dame has in his entire career) and in addition, Lillard can actually lead the offense.  So when Lebron rests, the Lakers won't fall apart allowing Lebron to scale back his mpg and take more rest days.  And Davis is obviously a big enough star that it might actually entice Portland to move on from Lillard.

At first, I was like that is crazy, but it does actually make sense on some level.  They make around the same amount so it could just be a 1 for 1, but there are other pieces that can be included.

I'd rather have AD. He is the better individual player & the player more capable of creating mismatches for other top teams in the postseason.

How many contenders have two way athletic bigs like AD who can pass, shoot and dribble? With his quickness and athleticism above the rim on lobs?

That guy is a nightmare to matchup against.

That guy is a nightmare to matchup against.

When he plays.  That was Cowherd's main point.  He just misses so many games you can't rely on him in either the regular season or post season.  Lebron only has so many more seasons in him and they wasted the last one because AD couldn't stay healthy (just 1 more win in the regular season and they don't play in the play in or Phoenix).  Cowherd acknowledged Davis was a better player when he is fully healthy, he is just never fully healthy.  And Davis can't really carry a team with a scoring load.  Something that is a real problem for the Lakers when Lebron isn't playing.

It's more likely Davis healthy one of the next 3 of seasons than Lillard winning a title as a top 2 player on his team in his career.  If Davis is healthy, you are the title favorite.  If you have Lillard, you are the favorite for some insightful interviews and a second round exit.

Obviously Davis is the better player but this trade does make sense for both teams.  I think Lebron might prefer to have the confident, self motivated, and assertive Lillard to lean on to take the big shots and be the team's number one offensive weapon than Davis's all around package.
