Over the last 5 seasons as a 2nd option on a winning team he has basically averaged 22/4/4 shooting 39.4% from 3, 49.4% from 2, and 83.9% from the line and people are acting like he isn't any good. He is still in his prime and will be for a couple of seasons
With the addition of Horford, Thompson is basically worthless to Boston. Smart is still one of the worst offensive players in the sport. Nesmith is a 2nd year player who showed some promise, but didn't exactly tear it up as a rookie. The late 1st is unlikely to yield a good player.
McCollum is basically Beal and people have been willing to include Brown in a Beal trade, but won't do this one. Crazy.
I wouldn't want Beal. and I wouldn't want McCollum.
They are both exceptional players, and I agree that they would have a similar impact. But both are scorers first. Both are good passers and ball handlers but not point guards. Both can carry an offense.
The C's are stacked up at the 2 guard role. Brown often plays scoring guard. Langford plays there, and Nesmith is a nice prospect who we might be including in this deal. You might as well think of losing Fournier as part of this deal, because you aren't going to keep him with someone like McCollum around.
I personally don't think we need any stars. I think we need more primary ball handling and playmaking, and we need a power forward, and those could be handled by good complementary players.
But, if we do try for one more $30M+ star for this team, what sense does it make to bring in a player at the one position where we least need it? We would be creating a serious waste of existing assets in addition to the players we include in this deal.
