Horford rejoining the team is huge for potential lineup combos and allows for a 2008 type lineup/roles.

The last championship team starting 5

Perkins (Timelord & Moses Brown) - defensive center, picks, blocks, picks
KG (Horford) - secondary scorer, facilitator, pick and pop, defensive anchor
PP (Tatum) - primary scorer
Allen (J Brown) -secondary scorer
Rondo (??, Smart, Pritchard)- pass first PG, perimeter defender

Posey = Nesmith?
G Williams = Big Baby

KG was first-team all NBA and all-Defense in 2008

Yeah, this all looks pretty good for Rondo-Smart, Allen-Brown, Pierce-Tatum, and Perkins-Thompson (I like this comp better), but Garnett-Horford?  Big downgrade there.

It is interesting though how these teams match up.  That is a fair point in term of personnel and style of play, this team just comes up short in terms of individual talent overall and in particular at PF.

2008 team lite. Like the comparison, though.
Most of the players in the starting lineup are comparable In talent minus the KG/Horford.

I love Horford, but he's no KG.  This team doesn't have a KG.

Arguably there isn't a player in the league who is really like KG.  Somebody who on his own instills a defensive mindset bordering on mania in himself and his teammates, who is also capable of being a go-to scorer on the other end.

PBS???

I thought perhaps PBS were doing a Ken Burns special on the 08 Celtics team...or less likely, creating a children's puppet show haha

Besides the fact that Al Horford is a million miles away from 08 KG you might be onto something
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

The closest to KG defensively is Draymond and overall it’s Horford. They are no KG though, who’s one of the greatest Power Forwards ever and would be a cheat code small ball 5 in this era.

I like the comparison to the 08 team. Perkins would be part of the starting lineup, but not in the closing lineup is this era, and depending on the matchup either Posey, Big Baby, or House.

I think Nesmith will find his way into the lineup by the end of the season and we’ll see:

Horford
Tatum
Brown
Nesmith
Smart

Management is going to avoid playing Tatum at the 4 until closing. The starting lineup will be:

Williams
Horford
Tatum
Brown
Smart

KGs comparison these days is.....

Well none so big Al can be that complimentary facilitator and X factor but not as impactful as KG.

Otherwise these comparisons do make some sense.
But we had a very young Rondo then which Smart is probably better in that sense and what we lost in KG because Al is made up for by Smart.

Tatum and PP is a wash and infact Tatum will be better since PP was towards the twilight of his career and same goes to Ray Allen and JB.

Lets hope for a good dash of health for once and see what this team can be when fully healthy as i really like our chances.

Can’t really speak to the comparison.

I literally spent 10 mins trying to figure out who PBS was.

I don’t know. You could say that about any traditional, non-small ball, team. Right?
