“frankly think Love and Horford are adequate replacements for Brown this season, maybe next,…”
Ah. No. Not even close.
Also, this trade makes no sense for Boston.
How does four first-round picks for Brown, and eating the end of Love’s contract (he’s still only 32), not make sense? We are the prime team to land a max free agent in 2023, a loaded free agency class, with this move. A move like this may be the only way to possibly land Jokic in two years. If Jokic (who may be the best player in the league now) joins Tatum and a serviceable supporting cast, we’re favorites for the title.
I notice you didn’t defend the claim that Love and Horford are adequate replacements for Brown, so that’s a start.
As for the rest, you’re trading a player who we know is very valuable, right now, for the possibility that if everything breaks right something great could possibly happen years from now.
The picks start in 2023, and you’re picking up the carcass of Kevin Love. Is Tatum going to say: cool, cool, I’ll hang out here in Boston just in case you get Jokic to come here. Definitely not going to try and force my way out after you threw away a couple years of my prime. And hey, if Jokic doesn’t come, I won’t mind: good try!
You also seem to be counting on those picks hitting big - do you remember when the Sacto pick was going to be at the top of the draft? Didn’t quite work out that way, did it.
