I feel really strongly that Chauncey would be a solid choice. Am less confident in Sam.

Why so?

I like that Cassell has a ton of experience as an assistant coach, with Doc as a mentor.  Chauncey seems like more of an unknown, with only one year of assistant coaching experience.

I like Chaucey but I think he is buying time….his eyes are pointing towards GM options

Sometimes people here amaze me.  How would you know that Chauncey Billups wants a GM job and not a HC job?   Not denying that you're correct - how the heck would I know? Just don't understand how you could surmise such unless he actually made that statement himself -- maybe he did?

Triboy who in the brass wanted Brad fired?

The only report out on that doesn't say who, it just says that Danny was against it.

I'm guessing it wasn't ownership because otherwise there's no chance they'd promote him to team president.

He got promoted because they are paying him $30K whether he works or not.  And he's a pretty smart guy, even though he has no GM experience.
Many think they wanted a new coach, and this was the most cost effective way of doing it. Stevens seemed to have had problems lately getting the team motivated.

Ainge said in the presser the current  GM staff is in place, and is a good one. Translated, that means the current staff will be kept.

I think there's a good chance Stevens will go back to college coaching when he gets a good offer.

If Brad had any interest in going back to college, he would've taken that indiana job.

In 2017 he was in the consideration for Cleveland's GM role. Recently was in consideration for Detroit's Assistant GM role.

Thanks.   I didn't mean for my post to come off snarky -- just sometimes I don't get how well-informed some people seem to be about other people's motivations and intentions.  If he was in the running and interested in GM jobs it makes sense to surmise that it may be his hope to land that type of position.

Though a successful run as HC in a system that values his input might be a good stepping stone to a future GM position.

I’d love Billups as head coach with perhaps Cassell as his assistant.

Now that Ainge has moved on I can only hope the Celtics cut their losses with Waters and Edwards. Possibly bringing back Rondo & Isaiah Thomas as their (positional) replacements would be the icing on the cake for me.

Its kinda annoying how people keep saying waters waters waters.Waters is on a two way contract. You cut him because he is not good enough and easily replaceable. But he didnt get in the way of us getting any other player because he does not occupy a position slot. You guys think rondo or IT will accept two-way contracts?!

Sorry but didn’t you see the word positional?

Financially it doesn't make sense for us to replace Waters, who costs us nothing, with Rondo, who is contracted for a guaranteed $7.5m next year

Just personal speculation, based upon how Sam behaved as a player. He seemed overly emotional. Chauncy seems more composed, serious.  He is a very clear communicator.  Also may be unfair but when a guy is assistant coach for so long and doesn't get a HC job, I have to wonder why.

Sorry perhaps I need to clarify.

I said positional, meaning you replace Waters the point guard with Rondo the point guard not Waters the two way play. Someone else can be brought in as a two way player. We’ll have plenty of roster spots available this off-season.

There's no misunderstanding there, it's just not feasible.

Haha I still think there is but maybe that’s just me.

I’ll try one more time.

The Celtics have the trade exception, enough open roster spots for Rondo, we can give the Clippers Tristin Thompson, but essentially I suggested bringing back Rondo and/Thomas the point guard for Waters & Edwards the point guard on our depth chart.

Well, Danny Ainge was a pretty emotional player too and he worked out well as a coach and GM.

I think it would be quite unwise to use the remainder of the Hayward TPE on Rondo, and TT is about equally valuable. TT actually might be more valuable to us, given he's our 2nd string 5 and Rondo would be our 3rd string 1.

I just think there are easier ways to beef up our third string guard spot. Ish Smith for example would be a perfectly adequate 3rd string guard available for the Vet Min.
