I’d love Billups as head coach with perhaps Cassell as his assistant.

Now that Ainge has moved on I can only hope the Celtics cut their losses with Waters and Edwards. Possibly bringing back Rondo & Isaiah Thomas as their (positional) replacements would be the icing on the cake for me.

Its kinda annoying how people keep saying waters waters waters.Waters is on a two way contract. You cut him because he is not good enough and easily replaceable. But he didnt get in the way of us getting any other player because he does not occupy a position slot. You guys think rondo or IT will accept two-way contracts?!

Carlisle, if he is let go, would be a great choice..

I think so too.

They're literally ineligible for them, so the obvious answer is no, as you say.  Waters (and Tacko) will be replaced by another developmental guy who's either a late-2nd/undrafted type.  As is the case for most guys who are picked late in the 2nd/go undrafted, he will be largely disappointing, with occasional flashes that cause some posters to desire the 3rd-stringer or even 2nd-stringer at his position cut and replaced.

Can you expand?

The spat he had vs Rondo, was not a good look

Last night, he was freaking out in the 4th quarter related to some 50/50 calls. But looked like a nervous wreck around the bench area/pacing back and forth.  There was one sequence he was in the way of the Clippers inbounder (Leonard) and for a good 2 seconds couldn't /wouldn't get out of his way

I don't mind passionate coaches. But not nervous/bad temper.   Like Nick Nurse also falls into this category.

Popovich would be my only exception.  Bad temper but not nervous.  HOF coach

It would be really interesting if Popovich suddenly steps down as head coach of Spurs.  To let Hammons become the 1st female coach in the NBA. And then joins the Celtics.   Even if its for two season max due to age/health.  He would instill some really good habits/mentality

The Mavs are not firing Rick Carlisle.

I don't think so either.  He caters to Doncic... which probably makes Doncic happy .... which is good for Cuban bottom line ($$$)

But I do think that Porzingis is a goner.  and they will make other changes

That team could really use a 2nd all star on that team

Watch it be Jerome Allen or Jay Larranaga

They can provide a fresh perspective but also keep it the same

Basically Stevens pulling the string from above, while letting Allen or Larranaga handle the locker room issues, emotional aspect,  post pressers

Nothing like handing the reigns to a recently convicted felon.  The guy took a $300,000 bribe, and gets a plea agreement where he only has to pay $220,000 back.  He is automatically suspended for the first 50% of any college season as a head coach. I am appalled that he’s coaching here at all, let alone being considered as head coach.

With that in mind, there’s little belief, sources said, that the Celtics’ next coach will be an assistant elevated to the top position for the first time. That would theoretically cast a wide net, including respected retreads. The first two names linked to Boston’s opening, Jason Kidd and Lloyd Pierce, both led teams previously, and Warriors assistant Mike Brown—formerly a head coach of the Cavaliers and Lakers—is searching for another head coaching opportunity, sources told B/R. – via Jake Fischer @ Bleacher Report

Mike Brown vs. Lloyd Pierce.  WTH?

I'd take the report with a huge grain of salt. When we make front office/coaching moves, they tend to come out of nowhere. I seriously doubt Jake Fischer from Bleacher Report has a credible source in the C's front office.

hope not

Pierce had his shot and McMillan instead was able to take the Hawks to the next level

If anything...if Hawks don't resign McMillan ... I would be more interested to sign him

Maybe Brad, Wyc, etc. don't know who their #1 choice is.  Maybe they do and they are developing their plan of attack to get their man or woman.  I think it's more likely that they are whittling down to a short list who they'll interview and research.  In the meantime they may lose a good candidate or 2 by taking a methodical approach but I think it's wise to make a calculated decision. So rather than waking up one morning to "the C's  new HC is..." I expect to hear rumors about different candidates who are being vetted.

Danny has ties to Ty Lue and to Doc.  He will be speaking to both of them (about Chauncey and about Sam).

I feel really strongly that Chauncey would be a solid choice. Am less confident in Sam.

Hmmmm they kept Danny’s retirement under wraps.
