I think for Smart you're getting a role player on a decent multi-year contract OR you're getting an expiring contract and a late 1st rounder.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Not to hijack...just that the only Tatum Trade I could make work included Smart and Kemba, bringing us back to this thread....

2 POSSIBLE TEAMS:

1.  Davion Mitchell, Jalen Green, Jalen Brown, J. Isaac, Robert Williams
Bench:  Horford, Nesmith, Romeo, Pritchard, Gary Harris, G. Will, Thompson (maybe Fournier)

2.  Jalen Suggs, Fournier, J. Brown, Scottie Barnes (or F. Wagner), R. Williams
Bench:   Horford, Jonathan isaac ,Nesmith, Romeo, Pritchard, G. Will, G. Harris

I think the first team is better if trading Tatum...
Brings the team back in the direction that fits Stevens..

The mental makeup of the first team looks really good to me...team 2 could be great but is riskier than team 1 due to unknown ceilings of S. Barnes/F. Wagner....

I think Suggs and Jalen Green are guaranteed to be stars, probably superstars.

If I've undersestimated what Tatum could bring in a trade, then by all means add Cade Cunningham to team 2 instead of Suggs.  Or Mobley if you want a center.

I don't think there is any trade available for Kemba that is better than keeping him another year and haven't seen any in here yet. Big red flag on the knees until proven otherwise and a big contract. I read in B/R that he has a 15% trade kicker too that would take his salary into the $40MM range, but won't swear that it's true.
A trade for Horford would make some sense, but Roy H's deal is too favorable to us as is even before any trade kicker.

Smart should be readily tradeable and probably would net us something useful. Drives me nuts sometimes, but he's fairly paid and has his admirers around the NBA.

It's hard to think of a trade for Smart because most teams already have a lot of guard talent. The fact that Smart can't ever shoot 3s at a respectable percentage also hurts him in today's game. Frankly, I think Smart got spoiled here. He needs to rein in his game and improve his shot. I mean come on, his career FG% is .376!!!! That is a crazy number! I don't care how many fullcourt heaves are counted in there, it's still horrible. Ainge spoiled him and when injuries started to mount they had no choice but to start him when really he should be a defensive specialist off the bench. If they can't get anything for him, they gotta sit him down and tell him flat out, this is your contract year. You prove you're a complete player and you'll get a deal here or somewhere else.

Of course, the problem is Brad had no way of controlling him as the coach and he's still here. So why would Smart listen to criticism now?

Kemba + #16 + two seconds for Horford + #18

Keep Smart

Kemba + Smart + #16 for Wiggins + Wiseman

Neither is particularly realistic.
Why would we be giving up more for Horford when he's contracted for as long, is older, has played less basketball in the last two years and has been worse over those two years? Confused

You just need to find the right team.  Example, Miami will probably lose Oladipo, but say the C's send KW and a 1st to Miami in a S&T for VO?  Kemba's knee injury in the playoffs wasn't the one from last year, so that procedure looks like it worked.  Miami might do that, rather than lose VO for nothing.

So you want to trade Kemba and a 1st for VO? VO is more injury prone than RW3.  If you think not playing in B2B games is bad go look at VO's games played over the last few years.

Kemba isn't the best fit next to Tatum and JB but he is a far superior player than VO. Kemba is still a good player just over paid for the role the Celtics need him to play.

If you trade Smart, you have to want cap reduction. The team needs a power forward and a ball handler/creator. We need to move up 4-6 slots to get a player that has a good chance to be a long term solution. Can Smart and one or two 1sts get us somewhere in the 9-12 range in this draft?

thought the same thing.  both are bad deals for the C's.

first deal for Horford shouldn't have us giving up a pick at all.
Second deal is for a wing player that's never played with effort and a big man project that has been underwhelming so far.  No way I kick in a pick.  would take a pick from GSW at a minimum to think about it.

Kemba is such a defensive liability and Marcus such an offensive liability, I think it’s abundantly clear that we need to move them this off-season in order to improve our system/play. This thread is a sandbox for any and all ideas involving moving Kemba and Marcus in order to field a better team in the Fall. Let’s hear the ideas!

don't think we can get back a star with Kemba + Smart package, will have to throw in picks and young players. Our best chance is a multi-team deal that ships Kemba  to a contender desparately need a veteran point guard that can score, the two LA teams come to mind, maybe Denver as well. And in the process getting a star-level play maker that we need.

I don't like the Horford trade, rather just keep Smart and Walker.  But  I do like the Golden State trade.  I see the Kemba-Wiggins swap as kind of a wash at this point, you are getting a younger, healthier, taller albeit less accomplished player but both give you around 20 pts per game.  But to get Wiseman, a legitimate up and coming big for Smart and the pick?  I think that is a great player to target.  Just what we need.  Wiseman is raw but he put up 11.5 pts in 39 games at age 20, after pretty much no college, no summer league, and no preseason.  I see him just exploding in terms of production in the next season or two.

Not sure I can construct a scenario where GSW would like this deal but I like it.  I think they could do way better than Smart and Walker for Wiggins and Wiseman (just think, we would have the J's and the Ws).

Whoever we get, I hope the FO signs someone who wants to be here and not just looking at this as a pitstop one their way to create a super team somewhere else.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

I love speculating so  thinking 10 different crazy ideas a day but ( without being a person TOO knowledgeable ) about the cap, I cabt see the Celtics investing a 4 year 25 plus mil Smart deal. But  I DO think another team COULD be. I think because of where we are right now it’s a better idea to deal him for a younger player at a lower price who is more offensively efficient. Not knocking Smart here. But big money spent next to the Jays I think has to be a different type of offensive player.
