Romeo was so promising when he got back. That kid needs a major confidence boost. I think the talent is there, he just looks hesitant on the offensive end. The same could be said of Neismith. I mean they do all the nitty gritty hustle plays but scoring the ball has been scarce. Maybe more minutes and offensive plays for them could get them going?

The alphas on the team do not share the ball enough?

I missed this game.  Sounds like we at least competed without 3 of our starters.
(Granted they were down a couple of starters as well)
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am not that mad about a close loss to the nets
w/out JB, Kemba and Timelord.

Bring on a 2nd round matchup with these guys.  I would love to see us upset them in the 2nd round.
:)

I’ve seen Smart go to Neismith on two consecutive possessions (Phoenix game) where Neismith missed the first and made the second. I think they are getting the passes, it’s just they’re passive sometimes, to the point of being scared to miss maybe? They’ve had their shining moments, they just couldn’t bring it consistently. I really thought Neismith could be a sniper in the mold of a Duncan Robinson. I’m hoping hat he can still reach that level.

You have to build their confidence feed them until they show you it’s a waste of time.

Petty note: I don’t like how Tatum doesn’t pressure the pass. It’s by design too. Just something CBS and I don’t agree on I guess

EDIT: he never pressures the pass

What pass?
i think he means the inbound pass. i saw that too.

well remember when he subbed Tacko to pressure the inbound against Miami in the bubble.

Lol true. That might’ve been the last time Brad did that

But seriously, this year, Tatum’s usually assigned to the guy making the inbounds pass but he’s usually facing the floor, not the guy making the pass. It happens quite a bit, more than I recall versus any other CBS year.

But then again, CBS has done some weird stuff this year specifically. For example, when defensive help comes, it’s usually deployed from 1-pass away, which leads to easy open passes and threes. It’s gotta be by design with the way the team consistently does this. I don’t know what CBS is trying to experiment with but I think it’s been one of the things that had contributed to our defense being average this year.

Next year it might.

The whole game comes down to that 2nd quarter. Boston let up on defense and the Nets got hot and there was a near 20 point swing in just a few minutes.

I thought they did well to stay close when Tatum sat. They played great defense in three quarters. Smart and Pritchard did what they could offensively to help Tatum.

But that 2nd quarter. Man. Just terrible.

A Tale of Two Smarts. Plenty of other issues tonight, but he needs to be a better PG.

On the positive side of the ledger, Nets are looking shakier to me after our last two meetings and we haven't played a good game against them yet. Also, Pritchard may well be a solid playoff rotation player in the playoffs as a rookie (assuming we get healthy).

I think you were caught up in the moment.  Did he really?  Or were you caught in hope thinking he could save us?

Romeo at least has some tangible skills at very high level on defense.   Some of our other bench players lack any elite skills and there in lies the problem.

In all honesty, I give Fournier a pass this game.  But all the irrational exuberance about Kornet looks very bad now.  Grant we knew about all along.  That missed dunk was disgraceful and athleticism matters folks.  Who gets rim stuffed on a break away dunk?

Good to see Tatum kick off the slump some.    We did not have our full team of course they did not either.  Down three stars to their two.

We traded Theis to open up minutes for TL and now here were are desperately depending on Grant/Kornet. It was a perplexing move by Ainge, as we would have remained under the tax just by moving Teague/Green. It did allow us to eventually sign Parker, but I think if we just waited another week, we could have cut Semi for that. Anyway, not having Theis has left us with one less solid rotation player over this super-injured stretch.

We were down some players, but they were down two MVP players. We should have pulled this one out, rather than letting guys like Jeff Green and Joe Harris light us up.

It depends on the situation.  With 2 seconds to go, you need to miraculously steal the inbounds and get a shot off, with time for one dribble.  A player guarding the inbounder isn’t going to have a chance to do that — at best they’ll deflect it which starts the clock.  This is fine to do when you’ve got the lead, because that kills the clock, but when you’re trailing you need a steal in the open court.

Grant was playing too much before the Theis trade too.   What the heck was Ainge thinking when he drafter him.   When he has tried to find the Draymond Green clones his drafting is really poor given that it has yielded Grant and Yabu, this clouds his judgment in these two cases.

I’ll give Ainge this much, he keeps swinging for those tweener guys that’s for sure. Maybe he’ll get lucky at some point.

But I literally cannot believe how much Grant has regressed. His confidence is in the dumps right now and he literally cannot do anything right.
