To KD’s credit, they were DMs, unlike the Meyers Leonard incident which was public.

I don’t think that this matters. Private bigots are really no better than public bigots.

I agree with that notion. Credit was not the best word to use. I think the distinction between KD messaging Rapp a term Rapp has used a multitude of times publicly and likely privately, and Leonard shouting that other term on a platform meant to be for public view is worth mentioning.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

This is why I’d rather the Lakers win over the Nets. Durant and his fellow selfish buddies are an embarrassment to the NBA.

I have always been gobsmacked how well Durant has been treated in the media when he first moved to Golden State in comparison to LeBron. Even after Durant was outed for his burner accounts saying disgusting things to children and trashing the team that made him an MVP...the media said nothing! Some journalists even said it would be a ‘learning experience’. He is a grown man not a child, Durant is currently 31 y.o and is still saying these revolting things privately while pretending to be this saint publicly.

Durant will get a pass.

Personally, I don't care for Rapaport or Durant.  He is a mediocre comedian who is trying to hit the jackpot with lawsuits, etc

Ever see this

https://www.newsweek.com/michael-rapaport-loses-court-battle-against-barstool-sports-dave-portnoy-over-clown-shirt-1579918

Almost like clockwork the Durant stuff popped up after that.   Free press as he has no more Trump to bash to get attention.

I think what Durant said was wrong.   No call for that.  He definitely has maturity issues.  Totally uncalled for but the year has always had a set of rules for their players and one for their stars.

Rapaport v. Durant?

There are no winners here.

I didn't need to wake up today having even less respect for either of these guys, but here I am shaking my head at these two [some word that is inoffensive, yet conveys an acceptable level of insult reflective of how I feel about them right now].

Me and mike talk CRAZIER than this on the regular and today he’s p---ed....My bad mike, [dang]!!

Was this Durant's apology btw? This seems even more alarming than the dms released by Rapaport.

How is commenting on his skin color ok? There should be no double standards if we're to take this seriously.

Probably so, but it’s been 150 years since pale-skinned folks like me were widely discriminated against in this country.

I agree that it is a bad look and it is not okay, but I don't have a problem with there being a double standard. Might as well have straight pride parades and white history month based on your reasoning. Minority groups are inherently at the behest of the majority.

This is all very weird.  I am always amazed at what dumb things some stars like KD will do.  Context matters though.

I played high school basketball in a small town in NH.  Back in those days, white shorts and socks were the norm.  I was teased about how pale I was.  They called me Casper (after the ghost).  Comments about being pale just aren't the same thing as comments about being dark or brown or whatever.  For me, it truly was just boys being boys.

I don't feel I really understand the full context that KD's comments were made in so I can't really judge them beyond it being clear that it is really dumb for someone like him to put these comments out there, even if the intent was "all in fun" or whatever.

I understand the logic, but if the goal is for all of us collectively as a society to stop this type of behavior then it should never be acceptable.

that isn't the same thing.  Celebrating one's heritage, religion, skin color, etc. is no where near the same thing as making fun of someone for their heritage, religion, skin color, etc.  Not even close to the same thing.

I would pretty shocked if KD was not suspended a day or two for this stuff. I don't think the pale thing is really a big deal, but the homophobic and the repeated references to stuff I obviously can't repeat on here is a bit of a disaster for the NBA. Lets not forget Tim Hardaway was practically blackballed from NBA events and believes it keeps him out of the HOF that he made some homophobic statements. The guzzling comments and repeated graphics comments are very very farm from the messaging the NBA wants to put out there. There is absolutely no way they can't punish him for this.

No, it's not the same thing, and it may not have been the best comparison for me to use, but I was just trying to point out how making fun of somebody because they are white does not have the same impact as making fun of them for being [insert minority description here]. Since we live in a society controlled by straight, white, christian males; insulting somebody for being any of those things is pretty useless since they are in the ruling class. I realize I am still very privileged even if I am not all of those things.

I should note that I absolutely don't think it's okay to say what KD said about white people, but I am not going to treat it the same way as if it were Rapaport insulting KD's ethnicity.
